    Abstract: The invention relates to a method and apparatus for applying dynamic nuclear polarization and magnetic imaging to studying an object. As the saturation of an electron spin system required by dynamic nuclear polarization is proceeding, the intensity of a polarizing magnetic field over the object is different from that of a polarizing magnetic field lying over the object during the detection of an NMR signal. The apparatus is provided with means for changing the intensity of a polarizing magnetic field in a manner such that the difference between magnetic field intensities is achieved.

    Abstract: An SLP pulse is applied to an object to be imaged preceding one or more excitation pulses (a.sup.o or a) of a known magnetic resonance imaging technique. The SLP pulse tilts the nuclear magnetization away from the direction of B.sub.o, locks the magnetization with the rotating magnetic component and returns the magnetization back to the direction of B.sub.o. The known magnetic resonance imaging technique used with the SLP pulse includes applying at least one excitation pulse to generate transverse magnetization in the object. The excitation pulse causes the angle between the nuclear magnetization and B.sub.o to be less than 90.degree..

    Abstract: Microwave apparatus for diagnosis of cancer of the breast includes a microwave transmitter and a microwave antenna for directing a microwave signal to the breast under examination, and a microwave receiver having amplitude and phase shift detectors for receiving of reflected microwave signals. A processor is connected to the receiver for processing the amplitude and phase information to detect and locate cancer in the breast. A matching plate having a dielectric constant substantially the same as normal breast tissue is located between and in engagement with the breast and antenna. The antenna engages and sweeps over the plane surface of the matching plate to eliminate any air gap in the transmission path. A display unit is connected to the processor to create a microwave image of cancer growth, if any.

    Abstract: The invention relates to a method for examination of motion of material employing magnetic resonance imaging methods. A magnetic field, which is referred as an auxiliary field is applied over the first area of the object, this auxiliary field is arranged to get smaller as one moves from the first area to the second area, referred as the area to be examined. Partially simultaneously with the auxiliary field a radio frequency pulse, AHP-pulse, is applied on the object, the frequency of the AHP-pulse is the Larmor-frequency corresponding to the strength of the magnetic field in the area to be examined. The length of the AHP-pulse corresponds to the time, which is required for the material to move from the first area to the area to be examined.

    Abstract: An apparatus for the examination of an object, such as a human body, by means of ultrasound and NMR methods in such a manner that both examination methods are adapted to be effected substantially simultaneously and on the same target area.     Abstract: A nuclear magnetic resonance diagnosis apparatus includes first members which generate an inhomogeneous magnetic field within which the object is placed, and second members which includes a member which is rotated mechanically within the field. A mechanical motion of the member continuously modifies the strength of the inhomogeneous magnetic field except for a sampling line on the axis of rotation. The sampling line is located to pass through the sampling point. The field strength on the sampling line is at a constant prescribed intensity. It is advantageous in actual practice to carry out the apparatus of the invention. The first members include a solenoid magnet of a supra-conductor with a central axis coinciding with the sampling line. The second members include a rotatably carried permanent magnet having a central axis of rotation on the central axis of the solenoid magnet. The magnetic field strength of predetermined magnitude or intensity occurs only at one point which is a given distance from the central point of the solenoid on the solenoid's central axis.
