Abstract:
An electron spectrometer having a wide bandwidth and a high signal-to-noise ratio. Each electron channel sensor is the termination of a 50-ohm transmission line thereby eliminating series inductance and minimizing parallel capacitance, and resulting in increased bandwidths. A metallic grounding screen is provided between the sensor array and the curving chamber of the spectrometer, thereby completely isolating the sensors from the electromagnetic fields in the curving chamber, and resulting in an increased signal-to-noise ratio.
Abstract:
A parallel-plate variable-gap diode is described which is used to detect Xnd gamma radiation pulses. The collector of the diode is comprised of an interior circular portion and a concentric external annular portion, the collecting surfaces of which are coplanar and noncontiguous. A shielded low-inductance resistor-ring shunts the bulk of the sampled current back through the annular portion of the collector to the emitter thereby reducing self-bias effects. The central location and relatively small size of the current sampler minimize the perturbing influence of the walls at the periphery of the cavity. A one-dimensional electron transport analysis can therefore provide the link between the incident radiation and the observed current response of the diode. The cylindrical walls of the cavity are interchangeable spacers which permit the variation of separation between emitter and collector.
Abstract:
A nonlethal long-range bullet designed to be fired from a conventional hipowered rifle or pistol spreads apart on impact, thereby delivering a nonlethal blow to the target. Prior to impact, the inventive bullet maintains its aerodynamic shape. The bullet includes a front section in a forward portion of the bullet, the front section having a tail that extends to a rear portion of the bullet; a solid section in the rear portion of the bullet, the solid section including most of the mass of the bullet and being substantially disposed around the tail; at least two longitudinal scribe lines that extend along the front section and the tail; and at least another two longitudinal scribe lines that extends along the solid section and are aligned with the at least two longitudinal scribe lines, wherein depths of the at least two and at least another two longitudinal scribe lines are such that the bullet maintains shape integrity during flight while readily deploying into a flattened shape upon impact.
Abstract:
A fiber optic data link apparatus for providing a calibration pulse a short time interval ahead of high frequency signal data to be recorded on a recording device. An apparatus for improving the delay scheme of state of the art oscilloscopes, which results in improved signal fidelity and the availability of longer delay times.
