The determination may be conditioned on whether the current pilot signal and target pilot signal are transmitted from base stations within a common subnet. If the base stations are within a common subnet, handoff of the access terminal is based on a default handoff threshold. On the other hand, if the base stations are not within a common subnet, then the determination of whether to perform access terminal handoff from a current pilot signal to a target pilot signal may be made based on the handoff threshold associated with the slot cycle index. As a result, ping-ponging of the access terminal from one subnet to another may be reduced or prevented.

Methods and systems are provided for session restoration upon return to EV-DO. In one embodiment, a first radio network controller (RNC) receives from an access terminal a session-establishment request, where the session-establishment request requests establishment of a session for the access terminal. The first RNC determines that the session-establishment request indicates that the access terminal does not currently have a session, and responsively queries a second RNC to determine whether the access terminal currently has a session with the second RNC, which the access terminal does. After querying the second RNC, the first RNC receives session data from the second RNC, where the session data corresponds to the session that the access terminal currently has with the second RNC. The first RNC uses the received session data to set up a session with the first RNC for the access terminal.

Methods and systems are provided for synchronizing reservation status between an access terminal and an access node. In one embodiment, an access terminal receives a report from an access node, the report reflecting a first set of reservations, wherein the first set is a set of reservations that the access node is maintaining with respect to communicating with the access terminal. In response to receiving the report, the access terminal compares the first set of reservations with a second set of reservations, wherein the second set is a set of reservations that the access terminal is maintaining with respect to communicating with the access node. Upon comparing the first set with the second set, the access terminal determines that the first set is not equal to the second set, and responsively sends one or more messages to the access node to cause the access node to modify the first set to match the second set.

Systems, methods, and computer-readable media for basing a handoff of a mobile device on its position within a coverage area of a source base transceiver station (BTS) are provided. Initially, embodiments involve recording threshold distances, associated with candidate BTSs neighboring the source BTS, and capturing pilot strength measurement messages (PSMM's) at each of the threshold distances. Upon establishing a connection to the source BTS, the position of the mobile device is monitored to detect a traversal of the threshold distances. Consequently, the mobile device reports a current PSMM for comparison against the captured PSMM's. If any messages correspond, a candidate BTS is selected for receiving the connection of the mobile device. Otherwise, the connection to the source BTS is maintained. Accordingly, the distance of the mobile device from the source BTS at which the handoff is invoked may vary based on a radial direction of the mobile device therefrom.
