摘要:
An insulation product especially suited for use as an aircraft insulation includes a blanket of randomly oriented entangled glass fibers bonded together by a thermosetting binder and having a mean diameter of about 1+/−0.25 microns. The blanket has a density between about 0.25 and about 1.5 pounds per cubic foot and a thickness between about 0.35 inches and about 2.0 inches. The blanket, exclusive of anything else, has an average machine direction tensile strength of at least 0.6 pounds/inch of blanket width and an average cross machine direction tensile strength of at least 0.3 pounds/inch of blanket length; a transverse airflow resistance between about 300 Rayls and about 1800 Rayls; and a thermal conductivity equal to or less than about 0.32 BTU-in/hr-ft2-° F. The glass fibers of the blanket have a biodissolution rate in excess of 150 ng/cm2/hr.

Glass fibers prepared by flame attenuation display excellent chemical resistance to both acids and moisture while being highly biosoluble at the same time. The glass compositions are characterized by ratios of components which are reflective of acid resistance, biosolubility, and moisture resistance. Preferred glass fibers exhibit a biodissolution greater than about 350 ng/cm/2hr.

Glass compositions suitable for pot and marble fiberization display excellent chemical resistance to both acids and moisture while being highly biosoluble at the same time. The glass compositions are characterized by ratios of components which are reflective of acid resistance, biosolubility, and moisture resistance. Preferred glasses have a difference between HTV (10.sup.3 poise) and liquidus greater than 500.degree. F., and a biodissolution greater than about 350 ng/cm.sup.2 /hr.

Glass compositions displaying decreased far infrared radiation transmission, high biosolubility, and excellent moisture resistance are capable of fiberization by the rotary process, and may be used to prepare thermal insulation products exhibiting high thermal insulation efficiency as reflected by low thermal index values. The insulation products also exhibit excellent stiffness and recovery properties.

Multi-laser transmitter optical subassembly (TOSA). In one example embodiment, a method of fabricating a multi-laser TOSA includes various acts. First, first and second optical signals are transmitted from first and second lasers, respectively. Next, the angle of a first collimating lens is actively adjusted to cause the second optical signal to be aligned with the first optical signal as the first optical signal passes through a first filter and as the second optical signal is reflected by the first filter such that the first and second optical signals are aligned and combined.

Embodiments introduce redundant optical channels to significantly extend the lifetime of parallel optical transceivers. A plurality of transmitters, N, transmit on a plurality of optical channels, where N is an integer number of optical channels greater than 1. One or more redundant channels, M, are also provided. N+M multiple input shift registers provide multiple paths for signals from each of the transmitters to connect to N+M laser diodes. In the event up to M of the N+M laser diodes fail, the multiple input shift registers connect the N transmitters to functioning ones of the N+M laser diodes thus extending the life of the device. A corresponding scheme is also described for the receiver side.

A device includes a first fiber collimator, a second fiber collimator, a third fiber collimator, a first beam splitting prism, a second beam splitting prism, a spacer, a resonator cube, and a dielectric beam splitting coating. The dielectric beam splitting coating separates the second beam splitting prism from the resonator cube. The spacer and the first fiber collimator straddle the first beam splitting prism. The first beam splitting prism and the second beam splitting prism straddle the spacer. The second fiber collimator and the spacer straddle the second beam splitting prism. The third fiber collimator and the spacer straddle the second beam splitting prism.

Methods and apparatus for multiplexing and demultiplexing optical signals. An interleaver having a modified Mach-Zehnder interferometer as a first stage is used as a wavelength division multiplexer. This first stage is combined with one or more cascaded stages, each having a beam splitter and an optical delay element. A light beam including a number of signals at different wavelengths is received. The beam is split such that approximately half of each signal is contained in one of two sub-beams. One of the two sub-beams passes through a delay element, which provides a phase shift. The two sub-beams are recombined and split again. Each wavelength adds constructively or destructively in the new sub-beams such that the signals are separated—some wavelengths are in one of the new sub-beams, some are in the other. One of these sub-beams is delayed, and the two are combined and split again, improving the separation.
