摘要: An optical fiber comprising: (i) a core; (ii) a cladding surrounding the core; wherein the cladding comprises a cladding ring that: (a) has a width W equal to or less than 10 microns; (b) includes at least 50 airlines, each airline having a maximum diameter or a maximum width of not more than 2 microns and more than 50% of said airlines have a length of more than 20 m; (c) has an air fill fraction of 0. 1% to 10%, and (d) has an inner radius Rin and an outer radius Rout, wherein 6 μm≦Rin≦14 μm, and 8 μm≦Rout≦14 μm; and (iii) an outer cladding surrounding said cladding ring.

摘要: Bend resistant multimode optical fibers are disclosed herein. Multimode optical fibers disclosed herein comprise a core region having a radius greater than 30 microns and a cladding region surrounding and directly adjacent to the core region, the cladding region comprising a depressed-index annular portion comprising a depressed relative refractive index. The fiber has a total outer diameter of less than 120 microns, and exhibits an overfilled bandwidth at 850 nm greater than 500 MHz-km.

The fiber has a first inner cladding region having an outer radius r2>8 microns and refractive index Δ2 and a second outer cladding region surrounding the inner cladding region having refractive index Δ4, wherein Δ1>Δ4>Δ2. The difference between Δ4 and Δ2 is greater than 0.002 percent. The fiber exhibits a 22 m cable cutoff less than or equal to 1260 nm, and r1/r2 is greater or equal to 0.25.

摘要: A method of making a multimode optical fiber is disclosed. In one embodiment the method includes calculating a core radius that maximizes the bandwidth of the multimode optical fiber wherein the effect of draw tension is accounted for. The embodiments herein illustrate how core radius can be tuned so the time delay of the outermost guided mode group is reduced. The resultant core radius may be targeted for a value off-nominal from what would be expected for a particular commercial optical fiber type.

摘要: One exemplary multimode optical fiber includes a graded index glass core having a diameter in the range of 41 microns to 80 microns, a graded index having an alpha less than 2.04 and a maximum relative refractive index in the range between 0.6% and 1.8%. The cladding includes a depressed-index annular portion. The fiber has an overfilled bandwidth greater than 2.5 GHz-km at at least one wavelength between 1200 nm and 1700 nm.

摘要: A few mode optical fiber suitable for use in a mode division multiplexing (MDM) optical transmission system is disclosed. The optical fiber has a graded-index core with a radius R1 in the range from 8 μm to 14 μm, an alpha value greater than or equal to about 2.3 and less than about 2.7 at a wavelength of 1550 nm, and a maximum relative refractive index Δ1MAX from about 0.3% to about 0.6% relative to the cladding. The optical fiber also has an effective area greater than about 90 μm2 and less than about 160 μm2. The core and cladding support only the LP01 and LP11 modes at wavelengths greater than 1500 nm. The cladding has a maximum relative refractive index Δ4MAX such that Δ1MAX>Δ4MAX, and the differential group delay between the LP01 and LP11 modes is less than about 0.5 ns/km at a wavelength of 1550 nm.

摘要: Few moded optical fibers with small delay differences between the propagating modes are disclosed. In one embodiment, an optical fiber includes a glass core and a glass cladding surrounding and in direct contact with the glass core. The glass core may include a radius R1 from about 8 μm to about 13 μm; a graded refractive index profile with an alpha value between about 1.9 and 2.1 at a wavelength of 1550 nm; and a maximum relative refractive index Δ1MAX from about 0.6% to about 0.95% relative to the glass cladding. The effective area of the LP01 mode at 1550 nm may be between 80 μm2 and 105 μm2 such that the core supports the propagation and transmission of an optical signal with X LP modes at a wavelength of 1550 nm, wherein X is an integer greater than 1 and less than 10. The glass cladding may include a maximum relative refractive index Δ4MAX such that Δ1MAX>Δ4MAX. The optical fiber has DGD of less than or equal to about 150 ps/km at a wavelength of 1550 nm.

摘要: Fiber optic assemblies including at least one multimode optical fiber that have improved performance are disclosed. In one embodiment, at least one connector is mounted upon and end of at least one multimode optical fiber and the assembly has an insertion loss of about 0.04 dB or less at a reference wavelength of 850 nanometers. Another embodiment is directed to a fiber optic assembly having a plurality of multimode optical fibers attached to a multifiber ferrule. The multifiber ferrule has a pair of guide pin bores having a nominal diameter, wherein the guide pin bores have a tolerance of ±0.0005 millimeters from a nominal diameter for improving performance.
