    摘要: A communication device and method is provided, for which, when having implementations of first protocol that specifies different reliability levels for sending PDUs of a second protocol, where the second protocol specifies segmentation of PDUs of a third, higher layer protocol, a capability is introduced for setting the reliability level of second protocol (L2_ARQ) PDUs differently for second protocol PDUs belonging to a defined data structure containing such second protocol (L2_ARQ) data units. The defined data structure can be a higher layer protocol data unit or the send window. Thereby the delay caused by retransmission of second protocol data units can be reduced significantly.

    摘要: In the present invention, the implementation of a protocol that embeds packets is made sensitive to the type of data being embedded, so that adjustable parameters can be set automatically at the layer providing the parameters being adjusted in accordance with the packets being embedded. Thus it is taken into account that the data in packets being received from a higher layer in order to be encapsulated or segmented and sent further (either directly into the link or on to lower layer), may be classified into different categories with respect to the adjustable parameters, where the parameters can automatically be adjusted for an individual packet in accordance with the category into which is classified.

    摘要: The invention relates to a method and a device for improving the processing time of received data in packet oriented applications during a transmission via communication networks, in particular via an IP network and a mobile communication network such as the Global System for Mobile Communication (GSM), Universal Mobile Telecommunication System (UMTS) or General Packet Radio Service (GPRS). The received data packets of the second protocol layer, for instance, the RLP frames, are combined to form data packets of the first protocol layer, for instance to PPP frames, directly by the receiver in the second protocol layer. The completely and correctly combined data packets are then released to the first protocol layer. During the release of the data packets to the first protocol layer, a difference is made between two modes. The intra-flow mode is a mode, wherein all completely generated data packets are released, i.e. independent from whether the data packets belong to the same or to two different data flows. In contrast thereto, a difference is made in view of the inter-flow mode. In said mode only the completely generated data packets belonging to different data flows are released to the first protocol layer.

    摘要: A communication system includes a user equipment (UE) 10 and a gateway 26. The UE (10) sends data packets on one or more bearers (52, 54) to the gateway 26. One or more packet filters (62, 64) are installed in the UE (10) for associating the data packets with the bearers (52, 54). A decision is performed if installation of a new packet filter (62, 64) in the UE (10) is required to map the data packets of indicated data traffic to a particular bearer (52, 54). The result of the decision may then be indicated from a policy controller (30) to a gateway (26) and/or from the gateway (26) to the UE (10). Depending on the result of the decision, the gateway may initiate signaling of the new packet filter (62, 64) to the UE (10) and/or the UE (10) may install the new packet filter (62, 64).
