    摘要: A ball grid array socket connector (1) includes an insulative base (10), a number of conductive contacts (18) fixed to the base, a number of solder balls (30) attached to tail portions (32) of corresponding contacts and a cover (20) movably attached to the base. The base has a top surface (14), a bottom surface (16) and defines a number of cavities (12) through the top surface and the bottom surface. The cavities are arranged in a matrix. The contacts are received in corresponding cavities of the base. The base provides a number of stand-offs (28) which downwardly protrude from the bottom surface of the base and terminate at a plane (D) generally parallel with the bottom surface of the base. The solder balls each have a bottom tip (31) that downwardly extends beyond the plane D. The base defines a number of notches (26) in the bottom surface thereof. The notches are located at outer sides of the matrix of cavities.

The distance from the tip portion of the driving side to the plane side is a maximum distance, while the distance from either the start portion or the end portion to the plane side is smaller than the maximum distance.

The base has a major surface (1011) with a plurality of terminal receiving passageways (1010) extending therefrom. The cover has a major face (1025) opposite the major surface and spaced apart from the major surface of the base. A plurality of discrete protrusions (1012) is arranged extending longitudinally from one of said major face and said major surface towards the other, and positionable adjacent the passageways. Thus, a plurality of voids is located laterally adjacent the discrete protrusions and between the major surface of the base and the major face of the cover, thereby allowing the heat from pin-like conductive elements (21) of a CPU chip (20) to be dissipated through the plurality of laterally voids around the pin-like conductive elements.

    摘要: A contact module with connectors adapted to engage with first and second electrical conductors such that when resiliently interfaced with the conductors there is a net zero moment of inertia exerted on the conductors. Each individual connector exerts a resilient spring force to engage with an electrical conductor. When such resilient forces, as in the prior art are aggregated, they can exert a considerable vectored moment of inertia on the electrical conductors to which they are connected. The connectors of the present invention are arranged so that each individual connector has an opposing connector somewhere in the module to offset each individual moment of inertia so that the net sum of all moments on the interfacing electrical conductor is zero.
