Abstract:
Apparatus for a portable electronic device, the apparatus comprising a base member, a user input interface, and a user output interface. The user output interface is configured to extend along mutually perpendicular longitudinal and lateral axes of the apparatus. The user input interface comprises a QWERTY input configured to extend parallel to the longitudinal axis. The apparatus is configured to provide a first configuration in which the user input interface is housed between the base member and the user output interface, and a second configuration in which the user input and output interfaces have been laterally slid in opposing directions with respect to the base member.
Abstract:
The present invention provides a hinge mechanism for allowing relative movement between a first and a second member of a device, the hinge mechanism arranged to connect the first device member about a first pivot axis and the second device member about a second pivot axis, and wherein the hinge mechanism comprises a synchronisation mechanism having a strap arranged to provide connection of the first and second device members across an imaginary line between the first and second pivot axes to provide joint movement about both first and second pivot axes during operation of the hinge.
Abstract:
A mobile terminal, such as a mobile telephone, has a hinge with a helical spring and which provides both snap opening or automatic opening upon activation of a release means as well as a freely selectable angular position between the rotating parts of the terminal. Also, a new type of spring hinges or clutches are described for use in, for example, this type of terminal.
Abstract:
A portable electronic apparatus comprises a base, first and second parts moveably connected to the base, and a mechanism coupling the first and second parts. The mechanism is configured such that when one of the first or second parts is moved relative to the base, the other of the first or second parts moves relative to the base. One of said first and second parts is configured to tilt to an inclined position relative to the base.
Abstract:
Disclosed herein is an apparatus. The apparatus includes a housing, electronic circuitry, a first arm member, and a spring. The housing includes a first housing section and a second housing section. The electronic circuitry is mounted in the housing. The first arm member is connected between the first housing section and the second housing section. The first arm member is configured to move a portion of the second housing section away from the first housing section. The spring is connected between the second housing section and the first arm member. The spring is configured to exert a torque between the second housing section and the first arm member.
Abstract:
A SIM card reader comprising a housing having a recess, having a substantially planar floor portion and wall portions, sized to accommodate and thereby position the SIM card; resilient material within the recess and overlying at least portions of the recess floor; a dielectric substrate within the recess and supported by the resilient material, having an upper surface substantially planar to the floor of the recess and having contact elements extending from the substrate upper surface away from the recess floor wherein each contact element comprises a raised three dimensional metallic structure which extends substantially perpendicularly relative to the substrate upper surface, from a base portion at the substrate upper surface to a free end of reduced area; and means for holding the SIM card within the recess while pressing the SIM card toward the recess floor whereby the resilient material is compressed and physical connection is made between the SIM card and the contact elements.

Abstract:
A hand portable electronic device having a plurality of modes of operation including a communications mode and an application mode, and having a first component and a second component, wherein the first component is movable relative to the second component between a first position and a second position and wherein movement of the first component to the first position causes the device to operate in the communications mode and movement of the first component to the second position causes the device to operate in the application mode.
