A light conductor device comprises an elongated structure suitable for insertion into the mouth, having a distal end for gathering sunlight and a proximal end for distributing collected sunlight to the interior of the throat. The light conductor device, when used as described, permits the use of natural sunlight for irradiating harmful germs and bacteria in the throat. Alternative embodiments may include a battery and LED light source.

In some examples, one or more embodiments include a detection device comprising a splitter, where the splitter is to be connected to a feed leg of an optical fiber, and the splitter is to split the feed leg of the optical fiber into a destination leg and a detection leg, where the detection leg is oriented in a loop, and an actuation mechanism, where when the actuation mechanism is in an engaged orientation, the actuation mechanism is to cause a microbend in the detection leg, and when the actuation mechanism is in a disengaged orientation, the actuation mechanism is to cause the microbend to be removed from the detection leg.

A rumen bypass fat supplement for ruminant animals such as cattle is produced by: (a) blending about 40 to 90 parts by weight fat and about 1 to 10 parts by weight of an emulsifier; (b) adding about 5 to 20 parts by weight water to form an emulsion; (c) adding about 5 to 20 parts by weight of a Group II metal compound to the emulsion to form a reaction mixture and to initiate a salt formation reaction; (d) stirring the reaction mixture until it forms a hardened mass; (e) cooling the hardened mass to a temperature below about 100° F.; and (f) grinding the hardened mass into small particles.
