摘要: Methods and apparatus for generating notifications associated with the lifetime of peripheral unit consumables are described. In the described embodiments, users or clients are able to define and adjust their own threshold values that are associated with a consumable's lifetime. In one embodiment, a lifetime monitoring mechanism is provided and monitors the lifetime of a peripheral unit consumable that is associated with operation of the peripheral unit. The lifetime monitoring mechanism is configured with a user-manipulable, threshold-defining mechanism that is configured to receive user input and, responsive to the user input, define a threshold value for the lifetime monitoring mechanism. The peripheral unit's use of the consumable is monitored using the lifetime monitoring mechanism. A determination is made when the peripheral unit's use of the consumable reaches the threshold value and, responsive thereto, a notification is generated.

摘要: A scale is provided, the scale including a cavity having a resonant frequency which is alterable with variations in mass of a load applied to the cavity. The scale also typically includes a comparator operatively coupled with the cavity to detect actual resonant frequency under the load, to compare such actual resonant frequency with a reference resonant frequency, and to produce a difference signal indicative of mass of the load.

摘要: A computer is provided that monitors one or more printers over a network in order to determine when new components in each of the printers should be replaced. Each time a printer prints a document, the printer sends a signal to the computer. The computer responds by querying the printer to determine if a components in the printer should be replaced. In addition, each printer is configured to transmit a message to the printer indicating that the component should be replaced. If the computer determines that a component should be replaced, the computer can automatically transmit an order for a new component to a vendor.

摘要: Image forming systems and methods of forming an image are described. According to one exemplary aspect of the invention, a system includes a consumable monitoring device which provides a current amount of a consumable, such as toner. The system of this aspect also includes a memory device configured to store historical information regarding the consumable. A processor provides a requirement amount of the consumable and statistically modifies at least one of the requirement amount and the current amount using the historical information. Exemplary statistical modification uses a ratio of an estimation of a number of pixels within previous image jobs and the actual number of pixels imaged within previous jobs. Thereafter, the processor analyzes the requirement amount with respect to the current amount to determine the probability that an image job will be successfully imaged. In one arrangement, a confidence value is utilized for statistical modification. In addition, the historical information may be weighted. Additional aspects of the invention are also disclosed.

摘要: An embodiment of a media quantity sensing device and a media type sensing device includes a first, a second a third, and a fourth electrode. The first electrode is positioned above a media tray and the second electrode is positioned on the media tray below the media. The third and the fourth electrodes are positioned so that the media leaving the media tray passes between them. The media quantity sensing device further includes a measuring circuit coupled to a controller. The measuring circuit includes a first dual slope integrator to generate a first square wave output signal having a frequency dependent upon the dielectric constant of the media between the first electrode and the second electrode. The measuring circuit further includes a second dual slope integrator to generate a second square wave output signal having a frequency dependent upon the dielectric constant of the media between the third electrode and the fourth electrode. The measuring circuit also includes a frequency measurement unit to measure the frequencies of the first and the second square wave output signals. The controller reads the frequencies from the first and the second square wave output signals. The controller determines the media type in the media tray based upon the frequency of the first square wave output signal. Based upon the media type information, the controller selects and accesses a lookup table to determine the quantity of the media in the media tray by comparing the frequency of the second square wave output signal to values in the lookup table.

摘要: Systems and procedures are described for an imaging device to download media parameters from a remote server computer that is connected to the imaging device across a network. Specifically, the imaging device detects a media ID from print media. Responsive to detecting the media ID, the imaging device downloads a set of media parameters that correspond to the Media ID from the server computer. The imaging device uses these downloaded media parameters to automatically configure itself.
