摘要: A hand-held programmer is provided for adjusting various functions of a multi-scene, multi-zone programmable lighting control. The programmer generally includes push-buttons for selecting particular scenes and zones to be programmed and for activating any one of the functions to be adjusted; namely, intensity, fade time, and fade delay. An alphanumeric LCD display includes a number of controllable display areas, adjacent to and aligned with the push-buttons, for identifying the names of the selected scene and zone and the function settings associated with them. A cylindrically elongated rotary encoder, having a knurled, rubbery surface, is easily manipulated to adjust the setting of the activated function and provides kinesthetic feedback, so that its adjustment can be coordinated with a visual perception of the lighting scene. A locking type socket receives a corresponding plug for electrically connecting the programmer to a wall station in any one of a number of lighting areas to provide communication between the programmer and the lighting control. Once connected to a wall station in a particular area, the programmer is prevented from selecting scenes or zones in other areas to prevent inadvertent misadjustments.

摘要: A cover and support plate arrangement for a wall mounted device, such as a wall switch, display, dimmer, etc., for mounting to a wall box embedded in the wall and having overall surface dimensions greater than that of the wall box. The cover plate is juxtaposed over the front surface of the support plate and is spaced therefrom to provide an air gap between the cover plate and the support plate creating a chimney through which air currents may flow. The device includes an electric circuit having a heat generating device, such as a triac, which is thermally connected to the support plate and in series electrically with a controlled load. The cover plate casts a shadow along vertical sides of the support plate such that the vertical sides of the support plate are visible only when viewed at extreme angles with respect to an imaginary line perpendicular to the plane of the support plate or the wall in which the device is mounted. The cover plate appears to float from the wall while proper thermal dissipation is achieved through the chimney between the cover and support plate. Means are disclosed for constructing a low profile, conventionally sized family of wall mounted dimmer switches that meet Underwriters Laboratories operating temperature standards.

摘要: One or more power dimmers have a preshaped phase controlled input signal connected to their control input. The preshaped phase controlled input signal is generated from the output of a master dimmer having conventional phase control circuits operated from a manual or other control. A relay having contacts in the output circuit of the power dimmers is opened in response to the reduction of the phase controlled input signal to a value less than a given value. In an alternative embodiment, the power dimmers are replaced by an interface circuit which produces a variable frequency, pulse width modulated or other signal.

摘要: An illumination control system for gas discharge lamps which can be dimmed is provided in which a central inverter produces sinusoidal output voltage at about 23 kHz. The amplitude of the inverter output is adjustable to dim the lamps. A transmission line consisting of spaced wires having respective thick insulation sheaths distributes the high frequency power to remotely located assemblies of ballasts and lamps. A high power factor rectifier network is disclosed for providing a d-c input to the inverter from the 50/60 Hz mains. Several ballasts are disclosed, which consist principally of circuits using passive linear components. Some of the ballasts disclosed are conjugate ballasts which are those made of complex conjugate impedances which resonate with or near the input power frequency. Some ballasts disclosed are non-linear when the lamp is out in order to limit the open circuit voltage. The ballasts disclosed all have the following characteristics:(a) good power factor (above 0.8) and include at least one capacitor and one inductor;(b) are dimmable by at least 50% by a variable amplitude input having a substantially continuous wave form;(c) use only two input wires;(d) operate at a relatively high frequency (at least an order of magnitude above line frequency);(e) a good current crest factor.

摘要: A load control switching system includes a switching element adapted to be coupled between a power source and a load. The switch element is operable in an ON state wherein it supplies power from the source to the load and an OFF state wherein it cuts off power from the source to the load. A control circuit controls operation of the switching element in response to the actuation of one or more short-throw, light-force switches which are each movable between a normally open and a momentarily closed position. The control circuit alternates the state of the switching element each time the short-throw, light-force switch is momentarily closed.
