    摘要: A food freezer having a mechanical refrigeration system comprising first and second closed-loop fluid circuits, wherein the first fluid circuit employs carbon dioxide as its refrigerant and transfers heat to the second fluid circuit, which in turn transfers heat to the environment or to another fluid circuit. In the first fluid circuit evaporator, carbon dioxide is maintained at pressures between 60.4 psig and 120 psig. In a preferred embodiment of the invention, the freezer employs at least two separate blowers or fans for circulation of air or other gas in the freezer enclosure. One blower/fan operates continuously to maintain circulation of cold air or gas in the freezer. The other blower/fan operates intermittently or at variable speeds to vary air flow across the evaporator, and thereby increase or decrease heat transfer from the freezer interior to the first fluid circuit evaporator to maintain the freezer interior at a desired temperature or within a desired temperature range.

    摘要: LNG is pumped to high pressure, vaporized, further heated and then expanded to create rotary power that is used to generate electrical power. A reservoir of carbon dioxide at about its triple point is created in an insulated vessel to store energy in the form of refrigeration recovered from the evaporated LNG. During peak electrical power periods, liquid carbon dioxide is withdrawn therefrom, pumped to a high pressure, vaporized, further heated, and expanded to create rotary power which generates additional electrical power. The exhaust from a fuel-fired combustion turbine, connected to an electrical power generator, heats the high pressure carbon dioxide vapor. The discharge stream from the CO.sub.2 expander is cooled and at least partially returned to the vessel where vapor condenses by melting stored solid carbon dioxide. During off-peak periods, CO.sub.2 vapor is withdrawn from the reservoir and condensed to liquid by vaporizing LNG, so that use is always efficiently made of the available refrigeration from the vaporizing LNG, and valuable peak electrical power is available when needed by using the stored energy in the CO.sub.2 reservoir.

    摘要: A method and system for delivering high pressure, subcooled liquid carbon dioxide. An insulated tank having a height greater than its internal diameter holds liquid CO.sub.2 to a depth of at least about 6 feet, and high pressure, subcooled liquid CO.sub.2 is delivered from a lower outlet of the tank. CO.sub.2 vapor is condensed in the upper region to maintain a desired high pressure, e.g., about 290-310 psi., at the top of the tank. By withdrawing liquid CO.sub.2 from an upper region in the tank, subcooling it by heat exchange and returning subcooled liquid CO.sub.2 to a lower region, a thermocline region is created at least 2 feet below the surface, and above which equilibrium high pressure liquid CO.sub.2 exists. Heat exchange is efficiently carried out during off hours using liquid carbon dioxide to chill the condensed refrigerant from an existing auxiliary mechanical refrigeration unit.

    摘要: A method and apparatus to automatically produce blocks of solid CO.sub.2 at low pressure. The apparatus includes at least one closed mold coupled to a liquid CO.sub.2 conditioner and a CO.sub.2 gas recovery system, and a control panel for automatic operation. The method consists in supplying liquid CO.sub.2 to this mold at a low pressure in order to fill the mold with CO.sub.2 snow of low density during a definite period of time, to then raise the pressure inside the mold to an intermediate pressure by supplying liquid CO.sub.2 at this pressure (and at a temperature of approximately -40.degree. C.) to form a dense mass of solid CO.sub.2 which after a definite time will block the admission of CO.sub.2 to the mold, causing a significant pressure drop that is used to create a signal to automatically close off the supply of liquid CO.sub.2 and finalize the production cycle of the block.
