    摘要: An end assembly for a gas laser has a support flange brazed or heliarc welded to a gas reservoir at one end of a laser tube. The flange supports a cathode, a replaceable Brewster angle window, and a replaceable gas feed tube. Ceramic feedthroughs brazed or heliarc welded to holes in the flange bring wires through the flange while maintaining insulation therefrom. The helical cathode is joined to copper stubs from the feedthroughs by crimped sleeves. Brewster angle window and gas pinch-off tube are bolted with nuts onto threaded extensions on the flange. Vacuum seals are provided by compression fittings squeezed between threaded extension and gas pinch-off tube or metal extension member by the nuts. A glass-to-metal bond between metal extension member and glass tube terminating Brewster angle window is made.

    摘要: A gas laser having a segmented ceramic laser tube in which at least one thermally conducting, electrically insulating sleeve fits over the peripheral edges of segment interfaces. Coolant, such as tap water, passes in direct contact with the outer surface of the sleeve, but is excluded by the sleeve from corrosive contact with metal bonding at segment interfaces. A single sleeve may cover the entire length of the tube or each interface may be covered by a sleeve. A reservoir sleeve may fit over a portion of a gas reservoir, with coolant passing in direct contact with the outer surface of the reservoir sleeve. A cathode and anode at opposite ends of the tube sustain a gas discharge, while a resonant optical cavity aligned with the tube produces lasing action.

    摘要: A laser having a deflector in which bypass gas is separated from a cathode and the local discharge region around the cathode, and in which the bypass gas has a relatively long open passage around the deflector to the cathode. The deflector has an open end surrounding at least a portion of the cathode and an aperture and having an aperture and a raised shoulder connected to the end of a laser tube. The aperture is aligned with the discharge bore of the laser tube with gas bypass bores outside of the aperture enclosed by the shoulder. The anode end of the laser tube may also have a deflector which is an annular washer having an aperture and a raised shoulder. The washer has a diameter nearly as large as the anode in which it is mounted.
