    摘要: A light emitting device includes a base member, a laser element, a retaining member, a fluorescent member, and first and second fixing members. The retaining member has a first surface on a laser element side and a second surface not on the laser element side. The fluorescent member is fixed to a through hole of the retaining member. The first and second fixing members clamp the retaining member. The first and second fixing members have first and second contact surfaces in contact with the first and second surfaces of the retaining member, respectively. A distance between the first and second contact surfaces becomes smaller as the first and second contact surfaces become farther from the through hole. The retaining member, the first and second fixing members are arranged such that a space surrounded by the retaining member, and the first and second fixing members exists around the retaining member.

    摘要: A laser system includes an optical path having an intracavity relay telescope with a telescope focal point for imaging an output of the gain medium between an image location at or near the gain medium and an image location at or near an output coupler for the laser system. A kinematic mount is provided within a vacuum chamber, and adapted to secure beam baffles near the telescope focal point. An access port on the vacuum chamber is adapted for allowing insertion and removal of the beam baffles. A first baffle formed using an alignment pinhole aperture is used during alignment of the laser system. A second tapered baffle replaces the alignment aperture during operation and acts as a far-field baffle in which off angle beams strike the baffle a grazing angle of incidence, reducing fluence levels at the impact areas.

    摘要: At least one convex (or concave) arcuate face is formed by photolithography on a photoresist film formed on a surface of an optical device made of an optical material. The surface of the optical device and the photoresist film are etched to form, on the surface of the optical device, at least one convex (or concave) arcuate face similar to the convex (or concave) arcuate face formed on the photoresist film. After the surface of the optical material is mirror face polished, a photoresist film is formed on the polished surface, and the polished surface and the photoresist film are etched uniformly. An optical device obtained in this manner is used for a laser oscillator, a monolithic laser system, a nonlinear optical device, a microlens, a ring laser and so forth. Further, a plurality of reflecting portions are provided on a pair of opposing surfaces of a light transmitting optical material. At least one of the opposing surfaces is formed on the convex arcuate face. A zigzag optical path is formed between the reflecting portions of the opposing faces of the light transmitting optical material such that it couples the reflecting portions alternately to each other, thereby to obtain an optical device having a long optical path. The optical device is employed as a higher harmonic wave converting device, highly efficient for a short wavelength laser apparatus.

    摘要: A monolithically integrated laser which is rapidly tunable over a wide optical frequency range comprises a frequency router formed in a semiconductive wafer defining a tuned cavity. A control circuit applies electrical energy to predetermined controllably transmissive waveguides connecting the frequency routing device with reflective elements defined in the wafer. This tunes the laser to a desired one of a plurality of optical frequencies. Application of such electrical energy creates frequency selective pathways through the wafer able to support selected lasing frequencies. This laser is economical to construct and is useful in high capacity, high speed optical communications networks.

    摘要: An optical fiber structure having resonant characteristics useful for coupling to an optical transmission line for removing selected wavelengths of light energy includes a light guiding structure, such as an optical fiber waveguide, which conditionally operates as a resonant cavity responsive to resonance of at least one other resonant cavity. In one embodiment, an extrinsically defined or adscititious reflectance is formed in the waveguide segment by laterally coupling an etalon cavity to the waveguide segment. In another embodiment, the waveguide segment is coupled to one or more resonant loops to form a conditional resonant loop cavity which includes the other loops. The resonant wavelength spacing for the conditional cavity and its cooperating resonant cavity are made different from one another with only one wavelength coresonantly supported in both cavities. In operation, the structure is coupled to a multi-channel optical transmission line for selectively removing a portion of the energy of a desired channel by resonating the desired wavelength in both the conditional cavity and its cooperating resonant cavity. Additionally, an active gain material can be provided in the conditional cavity and pumped by a pumping source to increase the gain of the desired wavelength.
