Abstract:
An optical disc and a method for recording data on the optical disc. The method for recording data on the optical disc capable of recording/reproducing includes the step of performing linking before a physical cluster in which recording starts to be continuously done. The recording method proposes a standard for handling continuous recording, overwriting and a defective region, thereby ensuring compatibility of a disc recording/reproducing apparatus while improving reliability of recording/reproducing of an optical disc.
Abstract:
A method of detecting a servo error, an apparatus therefor, a disk which maintains quantity of a servo error signal, a method of controlling a servo of an apparatus for recording data on and reproducing data from a disk, a method of detecting the tracking error, and a method of detecting tilt error of the apparatus. The apparatus for recording data on and reproducing data from the disk in which a recording area is divided into sectors, each sector has a header for indicating an address, each header has a first header and a second header which are recorded to deviate from the center of the track in opposite directions, and the first header and the second header have address areas in which the addresses of sectors are recorded and synchronous signal areas in which synchronous signals for detecting the address signals recorded in the address area are recorded, includes a reproducing signal generator for generating a reproducing signal including sum signals V1 and V2 of radial pairs, a sum signal RF_sum, and a push-pull signal RF_pp from an optical signal reflected from the disk, a header area detector for generating a header area signal including a header area from the reproducing signal received from the reproducing signal generator, a first synchronous signal level detector for receiving the output of the reproducing signal generator and detecting a magnitude Ivfo1 of a first synchronous signal in the first header by being synchronized with the header area signal received from the header area detector, a second synchronous signal level detector for receiving the output of the reproducing signal generator and detecting a magnitude Ivfo3 of a second synchronous signal in the second header by being synchronized with the header area signal received from the header area detector, and a balance calculator for calculating the balance of the magnitude Ivfo1 of the first synchronous signal detected by the first synchronous signal level detector and the magnitude Ivfo3 of the second synchronous signal detected by the second synchronous signal level detector. As a result, it is possible for the recording/reproducing apparatus to stably control a servo therein and maintain an optimal recording/reproducing state since the apparatus for detecting the servo error correctly detects the servo error state of the disk.
Abstract:
A recording medium having a spare area for defect management, and a method and apparatus for allocating and assigning the spare area. A plurality of zones are formed as one group without prescribing the relationship between a zone and a group. Spare areas include a spare area for slipping replacement and a spare area for linear replacement. The spare are for slipping replacement is first allocated, and the spare area for linear replacement is allocated according to the size of an area remaining after the spare area for slipping replacement is used and the purpose for which a disc is used. When the spare area for linear replacement becomes deficient during use of the disc, a supplementary spare area for linear replacement is allocated in sequence from the rearmost of a logical file area, such that the spare area can be more flexibly and effectively allocated.
Abstract:
A cartridge for an information recording medium includes a cartridge case, an opening cover, detachably mounted to a rear side opening of the cartridge case, for enabling the information recording medium to be withdrawn or inserted with respect to the cartridge case, and a holding unit for preventing movement of the information recording medium by supporting the information recording medium when the information recording medium is received and/or withdrawn into/from the cartridge case. The holding unit includes a pair of elastic pressure parts, elastically formed on the opening cover, for elastically supporting the information recording medium to prevent movement of the information recording medium when the opening cover is not attached to the cartridge case, and a release unit for releasing the pair of elastic pressure parts when the opening cover is attached to the cartridge case so that the information recording medium is rotatable in the cartridge case.
Abstract:
A recording medium storing linking type information and a method of processing a defective area in the medium. The recording medium stores information indicating that linking is applied immediately after the defective area, distinguishing a linking type which occurs in a general incremental recording mode from a linking type which occurs after the defective area. Defective areas are detected and registered in a predetermined area (recording management data (RMD) area) before user data is recorded or while user data is being recorded in the recording medium having a plurality of continuous basic recording units, such as a digital versatile disc-rewritable (DVD-RW) in which recording and reproducing can be done repeatedly. Linking is not only applied in an incremental recording mode or in a restricted overwrite recording mode, but linking is also applied to an area immediately after the defective area which is registered in the defect list, increasing reliability of the user data. In addition, a test signal such as data, a groove wobble pattern, or a recording mark which has a test pattern, which functions as linking data is recorded in advance in a block immediately after the defective area detected during certification. If the test signal is detected after the defective area, the new user data is recorded immediately after a predetermined number of error correction code (ECC) blocks following the defective area without using linking, reducing the time for recording linking data, which is advantageous to real-time recording.

Abstract:
An optical information storage medium includes a lead-in area, a lead-out area, and a user data area between the lead-in and lead-out areas and in which user data is recorded. Pits are formed in the lead-in area, the user data area, and the lead-out area, and a track pitch in all or a portion of the lead-in area is different from a track pitch in the remaining area of the optical information storage medium.
Abstract:
In an information storage medium, information about a user data area where user data is recorded is recorded in at least one of an area right before and an area right after a basic recording unit of the user data area. In a method of recording and/or reproducing data with respect to an information storage medium, information about a user data area where user data is recorded is read from at least one of two areas right before and after the user data area, and the user data area is recognized using the read information.
Abstract:
An optical disc on which data is recorded and/or from which the data is reproduced, includes a recording area where the data is recorded in at least one physical cluster, a defective area, where a defect that prevents a recording and/or reproduction of data is present, provided in the recording area, and a recording end area where information indicating an end of recording is recorded before the defective area. A method of recording data on and/or reproducing the data from a high density optical disc having a defective area, includes recording the data in a predetermined recording area having the defective area, and recording end data indicating an end of the recording before the defective area.
Abstract:
An apparatus for transmitting a video signal to a remotely installed display apparatus, and a corresponding apparatus for receiving a video signal are provided. The apparatus for transmitting a video signal includes a PCI bridge, a transmitter, and a transceiver-PCI interface. The PCI bridge receives a high-definition (HD) TS or a standard definition (SD) TS, and converts the received HD TS or SD TS to a PCI bus format. The transmitter transmits the HD TS or SD TS, which was converted to the PCI bus format, as a radio signal. The transceiver-PCI interface performs an interface between the transmitter and the PCI bridge. The apparatus for transmitting/receiving a video signal is capable of transmitting/receiving video and audio signals without a wire, thereby allowing easy and convenient installation and management of display devices.
