The data storage medium includes the AV data, and mark-up documents to reproduce the AV data in an interactive mode. Here, among the mark-up documents, a start-up document contains information on the mark-up documents to be displayed according to a set parental level.

An information storage medium containing display mode information, and a reproducing apparatus and a method thereof. The information storage medium includes audio/video (AV) data, a markup language document which defines a display window on which an AV screen is output and reproduced based on the AV data in an interactive mode, and mode information indicating a current display mode when the AV screen is displayed in a plurality of modes. With the medium, a user-friendly interface indicates the interactive mode that is not a video mode, even when the current display mode is a full-screen mode that is a subordinate mode of the interactive mode.

A method of and apparatus for synchronizing interactive contents. The apparatus includes a synchronized multimedia element determining unit and an application program interface (API). The synchronized multimedia element determining unit determines whether multimedia elements included in the interactive contents are synchronized with audio video (AV) contents. The API transmitting unit transmits an API corresponding to an interactive control command to an AV contents reproducing engine that reproduces the AV contents and a synchronized multimedia element reproducing engine that reproduces multimedia elements that are determined by the synchronized multimedia element determining unit to be synchronized with the AV contents.

A method of verifying defect management area (DMA) information of an optical disc upon initialization without certification, and a test apparatus for performing the same. The method includes generating as test information, defect management information, which is generated after performing initialization without certification on a blank test disc to which no data is written, and verifying the test information using reference test information for the initialization without certification to provide a test result. Accordingly, it can be easily verified that a recording and reproducing apparatus properly translates and processes DMA information which is generated after initialization without certification, using a blank test disc.

An information storage medium which stores data structures supporting multi-angles includes clip AV streams for respective angle data of multi-angle motion picture data. As additional information for each clip AV stream, clip information is recorded on a separate storage area from that of the clip AV streams. The clip information includes jumping-point information for jumping into another angle. Each of the clip AV streams may be recorded in a contiguous recording area, or divided into smaller interleaved units that are interleaved with units of the other clip AV streams.

The information storage medium includes AV data and a markup language document displaying the AV data which is decoded and reproduced and including preload information that allows the reproducing apparatus to read a file to be preloaded and to store it into a memory. The information storage medium contains the markup language document to prevent a video picture from being interrupted when the AV data recorded in the DVD is reproduced and displayed through the markup language document. The reproducing apparatus and reproducing method reproduce information from the information storage medium.
