Abstract: This disclosure relates to acidizing retarder compositions and methods of reducing the rate of carbonate dissolution in carbonate acidizing treatments of carbonate formations using the acidizing retarder compositions. The methods may include dissolving one or more retarder compounds in a solution comprising a strong acid to form acidizing retarder compositions, and introducing the acidizing retarder compositions to carbonate formations. The acidizing retarder compositions may include one or more retarder compounds and a strong acid. At least one of the one or more retarder compounds may be a poloxamer. A concentration of the strong acid in the acidizing retarder composition may be 5 weight percent or greater.

Abstract: A method of treating a region of a subterranean formation adjacent a wellbore zone, the method including cooling the wellbore zone to a wellbore temperature below a temperature of the region of the subterranean formation adjacent the wellbore zone, injecting a gellable treatment composition through the wellbore zone into the region of the subterranean formation adjacent the wellbore zone, and allowing the gellable treatment composition to gel in the region to prevent or reduce flow of an unwanted fluid from the region into the wellbore zone.

Abstract: A system and method of testing pre-formed particle gels in an artificial fracture system may include introducing a suspension including a pre-formed particle gel into a testing device that includes an artificial fracture setup with a plurality of fracture model units. The system may be configured to inject pre-formed particle gels into an accumulator with magnetic stirrers first and then into a series of fracture model units configured to receive a fluid through a flow channel and, change the flow channel in a transverse direction relative to the direction of the fluid flow.
