Abstract: A system and a method for determining hydrocarbon production from multiple subterranean formations. Different nanotag tracers are sequentially injected into subterranean production zones fluidly coupled to a wellbore extending from a surface of the Earth through the subterranean production zones. The respective nanotag tracers are injected into a respective subterranean production zone. The different nanotag tracers and production fluids contained within the subterranean production zones are produced through the wellbore to the surface. A turbidity of the production fluids containing the different nanotag tracers is determined at the surface. A quantity of each of the one or more different nanotag tracers from each of the subterranean production zones in the production fluids is determined. Based on the turbidity of the production fluids and the quantity of the different nanotag tracers, a total oil production rate from the subterranean production zones is determined.

Abstract: A composition of matter including a fluorescent assembly and a drilling fluid is provided. The fluorescent assembly includes a matrix material and a plurality of fluorophores held within the matrix material and has an average particle size of at least one millimeter. A method includes introducing the fluorescent assembly into a drilling fluid and circulating the drilling fluid through a well during a drilling operation that creates formation cuttings such that the fluorescent assembly interacts with the formation cuttings, creating tagged cuttings. The method further includes collecting returned cuttings from the circulating drilling fluid at a surface of the well, detecting the presence of the fluorescent assembly on the returned cuttings to identify the tagged cuttings, and correlating the tagged cuttings with a drill depth in the well at a time during the drilling operation.

Abstract: Techniques for correlating a depth of drill bit cuttings include circulating a drilling fluid into a wellbore during a drilling process to form the wellbore in a subterranean formation; circulating a portion of uniquely identifiable particles from a container into the drilling fluid during the drilling process; circulating a return drilling fluid that includes the drilling fluid, cuttings from the subterranean formation, and the uniquely identifiable particles; separating the drilling fluid from the cuttings from the subterranean formation and the uniquely identifiable particles; capturing at least one image of the separated cuttings and the uniquely identifiable particles; and determining, based on the image, a depth of the subterranean formation.

Abstract: A composition of matter includes a core-shell quantum dot particle having an inorganic core and an organic shell and drilling fluid. A method includes introducing a core-shell quantum dot particle having an inorganic core and a polymer shell into a drilling fluid, circulating the drilling fluid through a well during a drilling operation that creates formation cuttings such that the core-shell quantum dot particle interacts with the formation cuttings, creating tagged cuttings, collecting returned cuttings from the circulating drilling fluid at a surface of the well, detecting the presence of the core-shell quantum dot particle on the returned cuttings to identify the tagged cuttings, and correlating the tagged cuttings with a drill depth in the well at a time during the drilling operation.

Abstract: A composition including a fluorescent polymer tag and an aqueous-based drilling fluid is provided. Also provided is a method of determining drill depth of recovered drill cuttings. The method includes introducing a fluorescent polymer tag into a drilling fluid, the fluorescent polymer tag includes the composition having the fluorescent compound linked to the polymer. The method then includes circulating the drilling fluid through a well during a drilling operation that creates formation cuttings such that the fluorescent polymer interacts with the formation cuttings, creating tagged cuttings. The returned cuttings are collected from the circulating drilling fluid at a surface of the well. The method then includes detecting the presence of the fluorescent polymer tag on the returned cuttings to identify the tagged cuttings, and correlating the tagged cuttings with the drill depth in the well at a time during the drilling operation.

Abstract: A method for wellbore treatment. The method including preparing an encapsulated treatment agent via polymerization, feeding the encapsulated treatment agent into the wellbore, delivering the encapsulated treatment agent to a desired depth within a formation in the wellbore, activating an acoustic or an electromagnetic source at the desired depth within the formation, and generating an acoustic field or an electromagnetic field. The acoustic field or electromagnetic field activates the encapsulant thereby releasing the treatment agent into the wellbore and a desired depth.
