Abstract: A method for monitoring operation of an electric submersible pump. The method includes receiving data signals indicating values for a plurality of parameters regarding operation of the electric submersible pumping system; establishing, for at least some of the plurality of parameters, an associated reference signal; and detecting a deviation of one of the parameters from the reference signal associated with that parameter. As a result of the deviation having a rate of change below a predetermined threshold, the method includes updating the value of the reference signal to reflect the deviation. As a result of the deviation having a rate of change above the predetermined threshold, the method includes detecting an event and generating an indication of the event. The indication of the event further depends on a type of the parameter and a direction of the deviation from the reference signal.

The operations include calculating a reward value for each of the one or more potential corrective actions. The operations include identifying a first corrective action of the one or more potential corrective actions with a largest or most positive reward value The operations include controlling the device according to the first corrective action.

The first corrective action includes at least one of increasing a drive frequency of the fluid transfer device, adjusting a choke position of the fluid transfer device, or reversing a rotational direction of an impeller of the fluid transfer device.

Abstract: A method for detecting events includes receiving measurements from a plurality of sensors, and executing a machine learning model trained to identify events based on the measurements. The machine learning model identifies the events based on the measurements. The method also includes determining based on the measurements and the identified events that training applied to the machine learning model is to be modified. A modified training data set is generated based on the measurements and an initial training data set used to train the machine learning model to identify the events. The modified training data set is applied to retrain the machine learning model.
