    Abstract: A method of manufacturing cyclophosphazenes PFPE derivatives to be used in the lubrication of magnetic recording media is herein provided. The method comprises: a) a (per)fluoropolyether (PFPE) polyol [PFPE (Ppol)] comprising a fluoropolyoxyalkylene chain (Rf) having two chain ends, each chain end comprising at least one hydroxy group, and b) the corresponding alkoxide of perfluoropolyether (Ppol) [PFPE (Palk)] wherein the equivalent concentration of PFPE (Palk) in PFPE (Ppol) is lower than 30%, preferably ranging from 5% to 15%; 2) contacting mixture (M) with a perhalocyclophosphazene (CPhalo) to provide a mixture (M1) containing an equivalent ratio of PFPE (Palk)/(CPhalo) of at least 1; 3) allowing mixture (M1) to react until complete disappearance of P—Cl groups to provide a mixture (M2); 4) submitting mixture (M2) to hydrolysis to provide a mixture (M3); 5) optionally removing (Ppol) from mixture (M3) to provide a mixture (M4). A method of purifying mixture (M4) is also herein provided.

    Abstract: The present invention relates to a phosphazene compound [compound (L)] comprising a cyclophosphazene central core wherein each phosphorus atom of said core bears a substituent independently selected from: a) a chain (A), said chain (A) comprising a (per)fluoropolyether chain [chain (Rf)], one or more aromatic or heteroaromatic moieties [moiety/ies (Arm)] and, optionally, one or more hydroxy groups and b) a chain (B), said chain (B) comprising a (per)fluoropolyether chain [chain (Rf)] and one or more hydroxy groups with the proviso that at least one phosphorous atom of the central core is substituted with chain (A) and to mixtures of compounds (L). The invention further relates to methods for preparing compounds (L), to lubricant compositions comprising compounds (L) and to methods for lubricating magnetic recording media comprising applying a compound (L) or a lubricant compositions containing them to the surface of said medium.

    Abstract: Compounds [compounds (L)] comprising at least one monocyclic, polycyclic or polycondensed aromatic moiety [moiety (A*)], wherein: at least one carbon atom of moiety (A*) is substituted with a fluoropolyoxyalkene chain [chain (Rf)], said chain (Rf) comprising: a) a fluorocarbon segment having ether linkages in the main chain and b) at least one hydroxyl group and wherein: at least one other carbon atom of moiety (A*) is substituted with an electron-withdrawing group and mixtures thereof are herein disclosed.
