Abstract:
The present invention relates to novel derivatives of (poly)alkoxylated (per)fluoropolyethers, also referred to as PFPE-PAGs, comprising unsaturated end groups bearing acrylate, allylic or vinylic moieties.
Abstract:
A convenient process for the manufacture of alkoxylated derivatives of PFPE alcohols is herein provided. The process envisages the use of a boron-based catalyst and an iodine source and is characterised in that a PFPE alkoxide is prepared separately, contacted with a boric acid triester of the same PFPE alcohol and finally submitted to alkoxylation in the presence of an iodine source. The process allows achieving an alkoxylation degree of at least 2 with high yields and under conditions that are convenient on an industrial scale.
Abstract:
Compounds [compounds (L)] comprising at least one monocyclic, polycyclic or polycondensed aromatic moiety [moiety (A*)], wherein: at least one carbon atom of moiety (A*) is substituted with a fluoropolyoxyalkene chain [chain (Rf)], said chain (Rf) comprising: a) a fluorocarbon segment having ether linkages in the main chain and b) at least one hydroxyl group and wherein: at least one other carbon atom of moiety (A*) is substituted with an electron-withdrawing group and mixtures thereof are herein disclosed. Disclosed are also a process for manufacturing compounds (L), a method for lubricating MRM comprising using compounds (L), a lubricant composition comprising one or more compounds (L) and a method for manufacturing a composition (C).
Abstract:
(Per)fluoropolyether polymers comprising a (per)fluoropolyether chain having two ends, wherein one or both ends comprise one or more zwitterionic groups at one or both polymer ends, methods for their manufacture and uses thereof are herein disclosed. The polymers can be used in particular for protecting materials in contact with biological fluids or fluids containing biological material from contamination by organic compounds therein contained.
Abstract:
A lubrication method comprising applying to a surface to be lubricated a polymer comprising a partially or fully fluorinated, straight or branched, polyoxyalkylene chain (chain Rf) having two chain ends, wherein one or both chain end(s) bear(s) a hydroxy- or alkoxy-terminated polyoxyalkylene chain free from fluorine atoms (chain Ra), said chain comprising from 4 to 50 fluorine-free oxyalkylene units, said units being the same or different from one another and being selected from —CH2CH2O— and —CH2CH(J)O—, wherein J is independently straight or branched alkyl or aryl, with the proviso that, if both chain ends bear a hydroxy-terminated chain Ra comprising only —CH2CH2O— units, chain Rf does not consist only of —CF2CF2O-units. Lubricant compositions containing the polymer and methods for preparing the polymer are also herein disclosed.
Abstract:
A method of manufacturing cyclophosphazenes PFPE derivatives to be used in the lubrication of magnetic recording media is herein provided. The method comprises: a) a (per)fluoropolyether (PFPE) polyol [PFPE (Ppol)] comprising a fluoropolyoxyalkylene chain (Rf) having two chain ends, each chain end comprising at least one hydroxy group, and b) the corresponding alkoxide of perfluoropolyether (Ppol) [PFPE (Palk)] wherein the equivalent concentration of PFPE (Palk) in PFPE (Ppol) is lower than 30%, preferably ranging from 5% to 15%; 2) contacting mixture (M) with a perhalocyclophosphazene (CPhalo) to provide a mixture (M1) containing an equivalent ratio of PFPE (Palk)/(CPhalo) of at least 1; 3) allowing mixture (M1) to react until complete disappearance of P—Cl groups to provide a mixture (M2); 4) submitting mixture (M2) to hydrolysis to provide a mixture (M3); 5) optionally removing (Ppol) from mixture (M3) to provide a mixture (M4). A method of purifying mixture (M4) is also herein provided.
