The present technology relates to an image processing apparatus, an image processing method, a program, and a projection system that can prevent a sense of realism and immersion from being impaired even in a case where a planar image generated on the assumption that the planar image is to be displayed on a flat surface is displayed on a curved display surface. An image processing apparatus according to an embodiment of the present technology causes a planar image and an effect image to be displayed on a curved display surface such that an image representing a predetermined space is displayed as the effect image around the planar image, the planar image having been generated on the assumption that the planar image is to be displayed on a flat surface. The present technology can be applied to a computer that causes a plurality of projectors to project a video.

A projection system of the disclosure includes an apparatus unit and a controller. The apparatus unit includes a speaker section, a projector section, and an imaging section. The speaker section includes one or more speakers. The imaging section images a projection screen provided by the projector section. The controller controls a sound output state of the speaker on a basis of information indicating an installation state of the apparatus unit. The information is estimated on a basis of a captured image obtained by the imaging section.

The present technology relates to an information processing apparatus and method that enable characteristics of a projection image to be varied locally. An information processing apparatus according to the present technology controls a first projection unit to project a first image onto an image projection surface and controls a second projection unit to project a second image in an attention area as a predetermined partial area of the first image projected onto the image projection surface by the first projection unit. The present technology relates to an information processing apparatus and method that allow a plurality of projection units to project images more easily in cooperation. The information processing apparatus of the present technology forms a group for projecting one contents data in cooperation with other information processing apparatuses including projection units to project images and imaging units to shoot a subject and obtain shot images, shares correction information as information relating to correction made to images projected by the projection units of the information processing apparatuses belonging to the formed group among the information processing apparatuses belonging to the formed group, and updates the correction information for the subject information processing apparatus on the basis of the shot image obtained by shooting the image projected by the projection unit as a subject and the shared correction information. To make it easy to select an optimal viewing environment depending on content and preference of each person when viewing an image with a head-mounted display or a large-screen display device. Evaluation values of respective elements of a visual effect with respect to viewing environments and image configurations are determined in advance. For example, when an observer tries to start image viewing, a viewing environment that is most likely to provide a desired visual effect is automatically extracted on the basis of the evaluation value determined in advance with respect to the viewing environment and the image configuration and parameters of that viewing environment are displayed in an easily understandable manner as GUIs. Further, the evaluation values of the elements of the viewing effect in the selected viewing environment are also displayed.

There is provided an image processing method including detecting a distorted image before correction projected on a screen by a projection-type image display device, searching for a same shape as an input image having a maximum area inside the distorted image, and correcting the input image in a manner that the distorted image becomes the searched-for shape having the maximum area.
