Abstract: A circuit for controlling the duration and intensity of current flow through a resistive load, such as a heat sealing element in a plastic bag sealing apparatus. The circuit includes an inexpensive circuit for synchronizing the initiation of conduction of a triac or silicon-controlled rectifier with reversals in polarity of an alternating voltage source so that the load is supplied with a series of pulses of current each having the same magnitude and a circuit which is controlled by the synchronizing circuit and uses the reversals in flux in a transformer to decrease the duration of firing current pulses to a control electrode of the triac or silicon-controlled rectifier from a discharging capacitor.
