摘要:
An alternating current voltage regulator providing a stable RMS output voltage across a load. The voltage applied to the load being determined by controlling the firing angle of a triac, which is controlled by the pulse width of a timing signal generated in a timer circuit. The pulse width of the timing signal is controlled by an error signal. The error signal is based upon the actual triac output voltage as compared with a comparison signal. The voltage delivered to the load is compared with a RMS reference voltage to produce the comparison signal. The potential difference between the output voltage and the comparison signal is constantly monitored to produce the error signal. The error signal is thus constantly applied to vary the pulse width of the timing signal and thus vary the firing angle of the triac in accordance with the deviation of the actual output voltage from the stable RMS reference voltage. By constantly varying the firing angle of the triac with regards to deviations from the stable RMS reference voltage, the triac output is constantly adjusted to produce an output voltage substantially equal to the RMS reference voltage.

A power control system is disclosed for controlling the power output of a resistive heater element in response to operator selected power level settings by varying the rate at which a power pulse of constant duration is applied to the element. The system includes circuitry for generating a control signal representing a selected power output for the element, circuitry for identifying recurring patterns of a binary counter, the patterns recurring at different rates, and a logic arrangement for uniquely associating each of the patterns with a selected power setting. The binary counter and the power pulse control are synchronized with the power supply to trigger a power switching device at or near zero crossovers of the supply.

An electric cooker for the direct heating of food by the passage of alternating current therethrough has a two-way electronic valve, triggered at the beginning of each half-cycle of its power supply, connected in series therewith. A control voltage derived from a series resistor, varying with the magnitude of the load current, blocks the trigger circuit of the valve during halfcycles of a given polarity whenever the current exceeds a predetermined threshold, the trigger circuit being unswitchable during half-cycles of the opposite polarity so that only complete cycles are suppressed in the case of overload.

A circuit for controlling the duration and intensity of current flow through a resistive load, such as a heat sealing element in a plastic bag sealing apparatus. The circuit includes an inexpensive circuit for synchronizing the initiation of conduction of a triac or silicon-controlled rectifier with reversals in polarity of an alternating voltage source so that the load is supplied with a series of pulses of current each having the same magnitude and a circuit which is controlled by the synchronizing circuit and uses the reversals in flux in a transformer to decrease the duration of firing current pulses to a control electrode of the triac or silicon-controlled rectifier from a discharging capacitor.

A method and apparatus for controlling the supply of alternating electrical power to the electrodes of an electrical glass melting furnace in a manner eliminating or significantly minimizing any d.c. component. Reverse-poled controlled rectifiers are connected between an a.c. source and the electrodes to provide successive periods of alternating electricity to the electrodes, and the firing or gating of the rectifiers is controlled by a circuit in a manner causing each succeeding period of alternating electricity supplied to the electrodes to begin with a polarity opposite that of the alternating electricity supplied during the immediately preceding period. Any d.c. component will be cancelled to zero when averaged over two adjacent periods.

A constant power regulator for a xerographic fuser in which power control is achieved by taking the sum of the load voltage and current. The regulator includes an operational amplifier connected as a voltage adding circuit. The operational circuit amplifier of the power regulator adds the voltage drop across the fuser and a reference resistor connected in series with the fuser and the voltage drop across the fixed reference resistance which represents the current flow through the fuser. The output of this summing circuit is detected by a photodetector that electrically isolates the power regulator from a voltage regulator which has an output for controlling the power supply to the fuser through, for example, a triac, controlled as a function of the power supply signal and the detected voltage generated by the power regulating circuit.

The invention relates to a temperature control circuit for a device, such as an oven, a cooker or a washing machine, including a triac which is controlled by a temperature sensor connected in a bridge circuit, a second bridge circuit and an amplifier stage being provided by means of which three-stage control is obtained and the triac is always controlled during the passages through zero of the supply voltage. When the temperature is too high no power is supplied to a heating element, when the temperature is too low the full power is supplied, and near the desired temperature one half of the power is supplied.

The specification discloses an alternating current regulating means, for use for example in a temperature control system, by means of which an alternating current flowing in a load circuit is controlled in an ON/OFF manner in response to and in accordance with a small DC control signal such as may be provided, for example, by a process computer. The regulating means includes a semi-conductor switching means controlled by a control means which is responsive to a converted DC control signal obtained from a signal convertor which provides electrical isolation between the DC control signal source and the switching means. The control means is also controlled so that the switching means is rendered conductive only when the AC supply voltage is of substantially zero value, and so that only an even number of half-cycles of current is passed. The DC control signal may be of analogue or digital form, and may be provided in the latter case by electrical relay contacts.
