    Abstract: An apparatus and method for changing an operation mode of a portable terminal includes checking a moving distance of the portable terminal during a predetermined time period using received location information, checking a moving speed of the portable terminal from the checked moving distance and the predetermined time period, and changing the operation mode of the portable terminal to an airplane mode if the checked moving speed is higher than a preset speed.
