Abstract: Methods and apparatus are described for a User Equipment (UE) with reduced processing capabilities (e.g., Machine Type Communication (MTC) UE) to transmit and receive signaling are provided. The Downlink Control Information (DCI) formats scheduling a transmission of a Physical Uplink Shared CHannel (PUSCH) or a reception of a Physical Downlink Shared CHannel (PDSCH) are designed and have a smaller size than respective DCI formats for conventional UEs. DCI formats scheduling PUSCHs to or PDSCHs for a group of MTC UEs are also designed and can have a same size as DCI formats scheduling PUSCH or PDSCH for an individual MTC UE.

Abstract: The present disclosure relates to a pre-5th-generation (5G) or 5G communication system to be provided for supporting higher data rates beyond 4th-generation (4G) communication system such as long term evolution (LTE). Next generation of wireless cellular operation is expected to be deployed in higher frequency above 6 GHz (eg. 10 GHz˜100 GHz, also called mmWave and/or cmWave) due to availability of large amount of spectrum bandwidths. The physical layer of wireless cellular system in both DL and UL operating in mmWave/cmWave would be based on new air-interface different from that of LTE-A air-interface because the radio characteristics is different for mmWave/cmWave bands. The wireless system deployed in mmWave/cmWave system is expected to employ DL beam sweeping on broadcast control information to provide cell coverage to the UE which would result in excessive signaling overhead.

Abstract: An apparatus and method are provided for transmitting Uplink Control Information (UCI) over a Physical Uplink Control CHannel (PUCCH) in a communication system. A method includes acquiring, by a user equipment (UE), from a base station, information for a PUCCH format, the information indicating one of a first PUCCH format associated with more than one resource block or a second PUCCH format associated with one resource block; generating, by the UE, UCI to be transmitted; modulating, by the UE, the UCI by using quadrature phase shift keying (QPSK); performing, by the UE, an inverse Fourier transform (IFT) operation on the modulated UCI; and transmitting, by the UE, the inverse Fourier transformed UCI using the PUCCH format based on the information for the PUCCH format.

A method includes acquiring, by the UE, information for configuration of a first PUCCH format and a second PUCCH format; generating, by the UE, UCI to be transmitted; selecting, by the UE, one of the first PUCCH format and the second PUCCH format for transmitting the UCI; encoding, by the UE, the generated UCI; performing, by the UE, an Inverse Fourier Transform (IFT) operation on the encoded UCI; and transmitting, by the UE, the IFT performed UCI using the selected PUCCH format. One of the first PUCCH format and the second PUCCH format is selected by the UE, based on a transmission on multiple carriers from a base station.

Abstract: Methods and apparatus are described for transmitting a hybrid automatic repeat request-acknowledgement (HARQ-ACK) bit in a physical uplink shared channel (PUSCH) by a user equipment (UE) in a communication system. A method includes acquiring information on at least one offset for HARQ-ACK; obtaining at least one HARQ-ACK bit, based on a number of cells and a number of transport blocks for each of the cells; determining a number of coded symbols for the at least one HARQ-ACK bit, based on a number of the at least one HARQ-ACK bit and one offset of the at least one offset, wherein the one offset is identified according to the number of the at least one HARQ-ACK bit; obtaining coded HARQ-ACK bits based on a (32,O) block code, wherein O is the number of the at least one HARQ-ACK bit; and transmitting the coded HARQ-ACK bits in the PUSCH, based on the number of coded symbols for the at least one HARQ-ACK bit.

Abstract: The present disclosure relates to a 5G or pre-5G communication system for supporting a higher data transmission rate beyond a 4G communication system such as LTE. To this end, a base station using a large-scale antenna transmits, to a terminal, reference signal resource configuration information including multiple pieces of reference signal configuration information and reference signal port information, for transmission of a reference signal, and transmits the reference signal to the terminal using some or all of channel measurement resources indicated by the multiple pieces of reference signal configuration information and the reference signal port information included in the reference signal resource configuration information. In this case, the channel measurement resources may correspond to antenna ports, the number of which is indicated by a combination of the multiple pieces of reference signal configuration information and the reference signal port information.
