Abstract: Provided are a nickel-based active material precursor for a lithium secondary battery including: a first porous core; a second core located on the first porous core and having a higher density than that of the first porous core, a shell located on the second core; and having a radial arrangement structure, wherein an amount of nickel included in the first porous core is greater than or equal to an amount of nickel included in the second core, and the amount of nickel included in the second core is greater than an amount of nickel included in the shell, a method of producing the nickel-based active precursor, a nickel-based active material for a lithium secondary battery, obtained from the nickel-based active precursor, and a lithium secondary battery including a cathode containing the nickel-based active material.

Abstract: A positive electrode active material includes a layered lithium nickel-based composite oxide, wherein, based on 100 mol % of a total mole of metals of the layered lithium nickel-based composite oxide excluding lithium, a nickel content is greater than or equal to about 60 mol %, an aluminum content is about 0.8 mol % to about 1.5 mol %, a zirconium content is about 0.1 mol % to about 0.3 mol %, and a ratio of the aluminum content relative to the zirconium content (Al/Zr) is greater than or equal to about 5, and the positive electrode active material is in a form of a single particle with an average particle diameter (D50) of about 1 μm to about 4 μm.

Abstract: A positive electrode active material, a preparation method thereof, and a positive electrode including the same, and a rechargeable lithium battery are provided. The positive electrode active material including particles having a core of a lithium nickel-based composite oxide, and a nickel reduction layer arranged on the surface of the core and containing nickel with an oxidation number of less than about 3+. The nickel reduction layer has a thickness of less than, or equal to, about 10 nanometer from a surface of the particle to a center of the particle.
