Embodiments include receiving a request to send funds from a payor, the request containing one of the payee's email address and mobile phone number; determining whether the payee is registered with a network financial institution that is within a P2P network of the payer (the originating P2P network), wherein determining includes matching one of the payee's email address and mobile phone number; if the payee is registered within the originating P2P network financial institution, transferring the funds to the payee account at the network financial institution and notifying the payee and posting the transaction on the network financial institution web site; and if the payee is not registered within the originating P2P network determining whether the payee is registered with any second payment network connected to the internetwork payment hub with which the originating network is connected wherein determining includes matching one of the email or mobile phone number of the payee specified by the payor.
摘要:
Embodiments of the invention include an electronic payment system that allows person-to-person (P2P) payments and requests for payment, consumer-to-consumer (C2C) payments and requests for payment, and use of a P2P service by a business which in turn offers the service to its customers for making payments and requests for payment. The system and service allow users to make payments from their existing financial accounts to anyone, anywhere without funding a special account and managing a third-party relationship separate from the relationship the user has with the financial institution. The service further allows users to receive payments without registering for a third-party service. In embodiments, the service is available as an integrated banking service alongside current financial institution electronic banking services already used by customers. A bank customer can use the payment service directly from within a bank or bank web site.

Embodiments described herein include an electronic transaction service network (also referred to herein as a centralized electronic transaction (CET) service). According to an embodiment, a financial management system hosts multiple CET web sites on behalf of multiple merchants. All transactions through any CET web site are executed and managed by the financial management system. Merchants may customize their web sites to include a branded look and feel. The merchant web sites are part of a CET service for which a customer can register. Registered customers can then view and pay invoices from any merchants having CET web sites, whether purchases were made online or offline. Customers specify preferences for the CET service including choosing existing customer accounts from which the financial management system is to pay invoices on behalf of the customer. This eliminates the need for the customer to open and fund a separate payment account as in traditional methods.

Embodiments described herein include an electronic transaction service network (also referred to herein as a centralized electronic transaction (CET) service). In another embodiment, a financial management system hosts a “central payment hub” version of the CET service. The central payment hub is an industrial utility in that multiple financial institutions all participate in a central service that can be offered to their respective customers. All of the customers (both individuals and small businesses) of the various institutions come to one consolidated payment hub. For example a Bank of America invoice can come into the payment hub, and a Wells Fargo invoice can come into the payment hub. The payment hub is a shared utility across multiple financial institutions. The payment hub features a single registration at the payment hub across all of the participating financial institutions.

摘要:
Embodiments of a system for providing an integrated financial system to facilitate the transfer of funds among accounts held at different financial institutions and over different networks are described. The system executes a transaction involving a withdrawal of assets from a first account at a first financial institution and a deposit of at least a portion of the withdrawn assets to a second account at a second financial institution. The first account and the second account are maintained by different corporate entities, and may have the same or different account holders. The financial institutions are coupled to one another through different types of networks. The transaction is broken down into separate debit and credit legs. An integrated transfer process selects the optimum network to perform each leg of the transaction based upon constraints associated with the transaction and user preferences, such as cost and speed of the transaction, and restrictions or rules imposed by the networks and/or the financial institutions.

Embodiments described herein include a financial management system that transfers funds on behalf of a user. Embodiments further include a payment enabled invoice method and system including a payment application and payment hubs through which invoicing entities may create and modify invoices, and through which a payer may view and pay the invoices. The invoicing entity and the payer do not exchange financial account information, which is confidentially held by the payment enabled invoice system. Invoices are paid according to funds transfer embodiments, wherein a transfer comprises the financial management system executing a debit transaction from a first financial institution, holding the debited funds in an intermediary account owned by the financial management system at a second financial institution, and executing a credit transaction to credit the funds to an account at a third financial institution.
