The user-interface system has presentation logic for displaying an image of a virtual user alphanumeric interface on a presentation device. The virtual user alphanumeric interface includes an image of an overloaded keypad that has a two dimensional configuration of alphanumeric clusters. Each cluster corresponds to a set of alphanumeric characters. The user-interface system also has cluster selection logic for receiving user actions from an input device (e.g., five-button interface) to provide visual cues to help the user select an alphanumeric cluster and to cause the selected alphanumeric cluster or character from a cluster to be displayed in a display field of the virtual user alphanumeric interface.

摘要： Methods and systems for text disambiguation and context designation in incremental search are provided. A method for selecting items in response to ambiguous keystrokes entered by a user and unambiguous metadata associated with a previously selected search result includes receiving ambiguous keystrokes, selecting and presenting a first subset of items and metadata associated with the items presented based on the ambiguous keystrokes. The method also includes receiving a selection of one of the items from the user, and, in response to a locking operation received from the user, locking in fixed relation at least one of the ambiguous keystrokes to at least one metadata term associated with the selected item. The method further includes, subsequent to receiving the locking operation, selecting and presenting a second subset of items based at least in part on the locked metadata term, and presenting the second subset of items.

摘要： The invention features a method of reducing perceived network latency in processing a query from a handheld client device processed by a remote system. The client device receives incremental input including a sequence of incremental user actions for identifying content items on the remote system. The client device transmits a first subsequence of the input to the remote system for incrementally identifying descriptive terms associated with desired content items. The remote system selects a first set of content items based on the first subsequence and transmits them in a reply to the client device. The client device selects a second set of content items from the first set based on a second subsequence of the input. The second subsequence includes incremental input received by the client device while it was waiting for the first reply. The client device orders and presents the second set of content items to the user.

摘要： A method of and system for performing actions using a non-intrusive television interface with reduced text input is provided. The method includes receiving incremental text input entered by a user that identifies desired items from within a relatively large search space. The method includes selecting and presenting a collection of items based on comparing the input with descriptive terms associated with the items, monitoring user selections, learning preferences of the user from the monitoring; and selecting a set of items based on comparing subsequent incremental text input entered by the user with the descriptive terms associated with the items. The method includes using a relevance function to order the set of selected items so that a relatively small number of highly relevant items may be identified and presented. The method presents the ordered results on a portion of a display device while simultaneously displaying television content on the display device.
