摘要: Polyol acrylates are disclosed that are the reaction products of a modified polyol and a (meth)acrylic acid or derivative thereof. The modified polyols used in preparing the polyol acrylates are the reaction product of a natural oil or fatty carboxylic acid or derivative thereof with a polyol selected from the group consisting of polyester polyols, polyether polyols, polyester ether polyols and polyalcohols such that the natural oil or fatty carboxylic acid or derivative thereof is incorporated into the backbone of the polyol. The polyol acrylates are used to prepare pigment dispersions that are useful in formulating energy curable ink compositions.

摘要: A process for making bis(aryloxyalkyl)terephthalates useful as antiplasticizers for thermoplastic polyesters is disclosed. Dimethyl terephthalate is reacted with an excess of an aryloxyalkanol in the presence of a condensation catalyst to produce an intermediate mixture comprising a bis(aryloxyalkyl)terephthalate, a mono(aryloxyalkyl)terephthalate, and unreacted aryloxyalkanol. This mixture continues to react at reduced pressure while unreacted aryloxyalkanol is removed and the mono-ester content is reduced to less than 1 mole % based on the combined amounts of mono- and bis-esters. Both steps are performed substantially in the absence of oxygen. Additional unreacted aryloxyalkanol is then removed to provide a purified bis(aryloxyalkyl)terephthalate having an overall purity of at least 98 mole % and a yellowness index less than 10. Careful control over catalysis, exposure to air, and other process conditions enables the preparation of high yields of bis(aryloxyalkyl)terephthalates that have low color and other valuable attributes. A method of producing bis(aryloxyalkyl)terephthalate articles having improved compressive strength is also disclosed.

摘要: A polyester polyol prepared from a composition including a phthalic acid based material containing more than 10% by weight of ortho-phthalic or derivatives thereof, an aliphatic dicarboxylic acid (e.g., dodecanedioic acid), and a polyol (e.g., a glycol). A polyurethane adhesive, such as a polyurethane reactive hot-melt adhesive, is made using the polyester polyol, which exhibits improved initial bonding strength, shortened setting time, and ability to bond to low surface energy substrates such as ABS. The methods to prepare the polyester polyol and the polyurethane adhesive, and the method to use them are also disclosed.

摘要: Printed articles such as flag or tab media can be printed with text and/or graphic objects specified by a user. The flag or tab media are useful in marking and indexing functions. The printed text and/or graphic objects can enhance the communicative and organizational effects of the tab or flag media, conveying information indicative of order, sequence, or identification. The flag or tab media can be arranged on a print sheet that is fed into a desktop printer. The layout of the flag or tab media on the print sheet can necessitate “upside-down” printing of the objects in certain areas to achieve an appropriate orientation during use, particularly for folded or inverted media. In this manner, the orientation of an object is flipped according to its position on the media. A design application program executed by a computing system allows an end user to design objects on flag or tab media without worrying about the necessary flipping functions. The application automates the flipping functions, and incorporates them into the workflow of the design process.

摘要: A reinforced laminated beam provides reinforcement in the locations where maximum tension occurs on such beams, generally at the lower portions of the beam, by the addition of a layer of high tensile strength material between successive layers or laminations of wood. A thin layer of high tensile strength material, preferably a strip of aluminum alloy with a tensile yield strength of approximately 41,000 psi and a thickness of 0.064-inch, which is continuous across the width and length of the beam, is adhesively fixed between the bottom two laminations of wood, thereby producing a significant increase in the carrying capacity of the beam, while providing no obstacle to the sawing or other working of the beam in the field. Reinforcing material also may be added between other lower laminations for additional reinforcement, this being particularly useful for deep beams having a large number of laminations. The carrying capacity of a beam may be still further strengthened by the addition of a reinforcing strip between the two upper laminations in a beam, such upper reinforcing layer being useful where, because of the increase in the tensile strength at the lower laminations, the weaker area in the beam now has become the compressive strength of the upper laminations.
