摘要: The invention relates to an air/fuel ratio detection apparatus for a gas. This apparatus includes (a) a heater portion having an elongate cylindrical shape; (b) a solid electrolyte layer surrounding the heater portion and activated by heat to conduct oxygen ions therethrough; (c) a first electrode positioned between the heater portion and the solid electrolyte layer; (d) second and third electrodes in contact with an outer surface of the solid electrolyte layer and away from each other; (e) a first voltage applying device for applying a first voltage between the first and second electrodes; (f) a second voltage applying device for applying a second voltage between the first and third electrodes, the second voltage being higher than the first voltage; and (g) a diffusion layer made of a porous material and covering the second electrode to adjust transmission of the gas to the second electrode.

摘要: The invention relates to an oxygen-concentration detecting element including (a) a base member of a first insulating material; (b) an electric heater layer formed on the base member to generate a heat when electrically energized; and (c) an oxygen-detecting laminated unit formed on the base member, the unit including a solid electrolyte layer and inner and outer electrodes interposing the solid electrolyte layer therebetween. The inner electrode may be constructed of a noble metal material and voids that are dispersed in the noble metal material and are derived from a void forming agent. The oxygen-concentration detecting element may include a penetration layer for allowing penetration of oxygen therethrough, between the outer surface of the base member and the oxygen-detecting laminated unit. The penetration layer is extended in the axial direction of the base member from the position of the unit.

摘要: An oxygen sensor includes a sensing element detecting an oxygen concentration in a measurement gas that flows in a pipe, a cylindrical protector which covers an outside of the sensing element and whose top end portion projects toward an inside of the pipe. An outside diameter D of the protector and a projection amount L of the protector inside the pipe are set so that a ratio of the product of the outside diameter D and the projection amount L (D×L) to a cross-sectional area S of a flow passage of the pipe becomes substantially smaller than or equal to 2.5%.

摘要: An oxygen sensor includes a generally cylindrical casing. A detecting section is disposed at an axially one end side of the casing so as to detect a concentration of oxygen. Lead wires are electrically connected with the detecting section and outwardly extend through an axially other end side of the casing. A seal member is disposed inside an end section located at the axially other end side of the casing. The lead wires pierce the seal member. An insertion section is located at the axially one end side of the casing so that the detecting section projects over the insertion section. The insertion section is inserted into a through-hole formed in a wall of an exhaust pipe, so as to install the oxygen sensor to the exhaust pipe in a condition where the detecting section projects into the exhaust pipe. A ratio of a length of an outer projecting section of the oxygen sensor to a cross-sectional area of the insertion section inserted into the through-hole is set at a value not lower than a value at which a temperature in the seal member reaches a heat resistant temperature limit of the seal member.

摘要: An A/F ratio detecting arrangement includes a sensor casing having an oxygen sensor part arranged between first and second electrodes and an oxygen pump part arranged between third and fourth electrodes, which are heated by a heater. A signal output processing circuit serves to provide an A/F ratio signal. A signal switcher serves to provide a provisional oxygen content signal derived from the first and second electrodes when the oxygen pump part is not activated yet, and the A/F ratio signal when the oxygen pump part is activated.
