    摘要: In a metal belt-type continuously variable transmission, the radius of winding a metal belt around a drive pulley is increased to change the shift ratio i by applying a larger first axial thrust to the drive pulley and a smaller second axial thrust to a driven pulley during upshifting. In a region B where the relationship between a first axial thrust and the gear shifting speed dR/ds defined as a value obtained by differentiating the radius R of winding of the metal belt around the drive pulley by an amount s of tangential movement of the metal belt is maintained substantially linearly, the first axial thrust is subjected to a feedforward control based on a target gear shifting speed dR/ds. In regions A and C where the relationship between the first axial thrust and the gear shifting speed dR/ds is not maintained substantially linearly, the first axial thrust is subjected to a feedback control, so that the gear shifting speed dR/ds is equal to the target gear shifting speed dR/ds.

    摘要: A metal V-belt type continuously variable transmission in which the length of a side of an element contacting with a V-face of a pulley is shortened to increase a ratio range. If the element side length of a metal element is represented by L, the angle of the V-face of the pulley is represented by .alpha., and the hertz surface pressure between the pulley and the metal element is represented by .sigma..sub.H, the following relation is established: L .varies. sin .alpha./.sigma..sub.H.sup.2. When the hertz surface pressure .sigma..sub.H is determined to be between an upper limit value defined by the wear durability of the metal element and a lower limit value defined by the limit tensile force of an endless belt, the element side length L can be decreased by decreasing the angle of the V-face of the pulley. Thus, the distance through which the metal element can be moved radially of the pulley is increased to increase the ratio range.

    摘要: In a metal V-belt type continuously variable transmission having a driving pulley and a driven pulley, the inclination angle .alpha. of a V-groove in the pulleys is set in a range represented by tan.sup.-1 .mu.a tan.sup.-1 .mu.s. If the transmittable torque Tin is increased, the tensile force of the endless belt is increased to produce slipping between the endless belt and the pulley. However, according to the present invention, by decreasing the inclination angle .alpha. to reduce the tensile force of the endless belt, the transmittable torque Tin can be increased while preventing slipping of the endless belt.

Thus, even if a moment FV×L is applied to the metal element 32 by the tangential friction force FV, the moment FV×L can be canceled by a moment FL×(t/2) generated by a load FL for urging an edge a of a ring slot 35 by the metal ring assembly 31, thereby preventing the inclination of the metal element 32 to enhance the durability of the metal ring assembly.

The metallic V-belt includes endless belt-like supporting straps and a multiplicity of metallic blocks supported along the straps. The V-belt passes around a driving pulley and a driven pulley. At least one of the multiplicity of metallic blocks comprises a notch formed in a part thereof, and a strain gauge attached to the notch. The strain gauge is intended to detect an external force applied to the metallic block. The force operating on the metallic V-belt is detected based on thus detected external force.

    摘要: A belt (metal V belt) has a number of elements held by a ring in an endless shape and aligned in a peripheral direction of the ring. The element includes a head portion, a neck portion and a body portion. The body portion has a V face brought into contact with a drive pulley and a driven pulley and left and right locking edge portions wrapped with the ring and disposed on an inner peripheral side of the ring. The head portion is disposed on an outer peripheral side of the ring and having an ear portion extended to left and to right sides to be opposed to the locking edge portion. The neck portion integrally connects the body portion and the head portion. Front faces of the ear portion, the neck portion and the locking edge portion of the element are formed with contact portions capable of bringing the contiguous elements into contact with each other.
