摘要: A plasma display device and a driving method thereof are provided. The plasma display device has a panel having a plurality of discharge cells including a display electrode pair that is formed of a scan electrode and a sustain electrode, and a temperature detecting circuit for detecting the ambient temperature of the panel and outputting the detected temperature. In the driving method, an unusual charge erasing period when a rectangular waveform voltage is applied to the scan electrode is disposed between the initializing period and address period of at least one of a plurality of subfields, and the number of subfields having the unusual charge erasing period is controlled based on the detected temperature detected by the temperature detecting circuit.

摘要: Even in a plasma display panel of large screen size and high definition, address discharge is caused stably. A plasma display device has a plasma display panel and a scan electrode driving circuit. The plasma display panel includes a discharge cell having a display electrode pair that is formed of a scan electrode and a sustain electrode. A plurality of subfields having an initializing period, an address period, and a sustain period are disposed in one field period. The scan electrode driving circuit generates an increasing first ramp voltage in the initializing period of at least one subfield in one field period, generates sustain pulse voltage that varies from a base potential to a potential for causing sustain discharge in the sustain period, and generates second ramp voltage that is increased and is dropped immediately after reaching a predetermined potential at the end of the sustain period.

摘要: A method for driving a plasma display panel that includes a plurality of discharge cells including a display electrode pair composed of a scan electrode and a sustain electrode. One field period includes a plurality of subfields each including an initializing period, an address period and a sustain period. The method includes applying at least two kinds of sustain pulses to one electrode of the scan electrode and the sustain electrode in the sustain period, the two kinds of sustain pulses including a first sustain pulse as a reference and a second sustain pulse rising more steeply and falling more gently than the first sustain pulse. In the method, a drive waveform voltage applied to the one electrode includes a last drive waveform voltage in the sustain period and a predetermined number of the second sustain pulses continuously disposed immediately before the last drive waveform voltage.

摘要: A sustain pulse generation circuit of a plasma display device generates and switches a first sustain pulse for causing light emission having double peaks, a second sustain pulse having a falling edge steeper than that of the first sustain pulse, and a third sustain pulse having a rising edge and a falling edge steeper than those of the first sustain pulse and causing light emission having a single peak. The second sustain pulse or the third sustain pulse is generated immediately before the third sustain pulse. The first sustain pulse is generated immediately before the second sustain pulse. Provided between the second sustain pulse and the third sustain pulse and between the third sustain pulses is a first overlap period in which a time period for causing the corresponding sustain pulse to rise is overlapped with a time period for causing the corresponding sustain pulse to fall.

摘要: A method for driving a plasma display device which includes a plasma display panel provided with a plurality of discharge cells having a display electrode pair including a scan electrode and a sustain electrode, a temperature detection circuit for detecting an ambient temperature of the panel and outputting an detected temperature, and an APL detection circuit for detecting an APL of an image signal. The method provides an unusual-charge erasing period for applying a rectangular waveform voltage to the scan electrode between the initializing period and the address period in at least one subfield among the plurality of subfields; and controls a time period during which the rectangular waveform voltage is applied, based on the detected temperature detected by the temperature detection circuit and the APL detected by the APL detection circuit.

摘要: Provided to stabilize generation of address discharge and improve gradation characteristics of display images are the following elements: a plasma display panel; a sustain pulse generating circuit; and a ramp voltage generating circuit including a first ramp voltage generating circuit, a second ramp voltage generating circuit, and a switching circuit. The first ramp voltage generating circuit generates a first ramp voltage gently increasing in an initializing period. The second ramp voltage generating circuit generates a second ramp voltage increasing with a gradient gentler than that of the rising edge of a sustain pulse and steeper than that of the first ramp voltage, at the end of each sustain period. The switching circuit stops the operation of the second ramp voltage generating circuit immediately after the second ramp voltage reaches a predetermined electric potential. In at least one sustain period of one field, no sustain pulse but the second ramp voltage is generated.

摘要: A sustain pulse generation circuit of a plasma display device generates and switches a first sustain pulse for causing light emission having double peaks, a second sustain pulse having a falling edge steeper than that of the first sustain pulse, and a third sustain pulse having a rising edge and a falling edge steeper than those of the first sustain pulse and causing light emission having a single peak. The second sustain pulse or the third sustain pulse is generated immediately before the third sustain pulse. The first sustain pulse is generated immediately before the second sustain pulse. Provided between the second sustain pulse and the third sustain pulse and between the third sustain pulses is a first overlap period in which a time period for causing the corresponding sustain pulse to rise is overlapped with a time period for causing the corresponding sustain pulse to fall.
