摘要: A method and system is disclosed for scheduling data download, such as web pages, databases or softwares, over a network such as the internet. The method includes the steps of (a) initiating the data download request and the user input interfaces; saving the requesting computer system's network address; (b) fetching and saving those web pages, databases or softwares' source entities and their corresponding network addresses for the upcoming data download; (c) fetching and saving from the user's input on the schedules, user ids and passwords, disk directories, limits on bandwidth, downloading time and allocated storage space for the data download; (d) setting the system timer at the wake-up time according to the data download schedules; (e) automatically turning on the requesting computer system according to the system timer and dialing up to connect to the network; (f) accessing the download data's network address and transmitting the data to the requesting computer system; (g) receiving and storing the requested web pages, databases or softwares in the requesting computer system; (h) interrupting a particular data downloading if the downloading time exceeding the user's earlier input downloading time limit or if the allocated download storage space reached the user specified limit; (i) automatically disconnecting from the network; (j) automatically rescheduling the data download in some other time if the previous data download is not successful or the network is too busy; (k) automatically turning off the requesting computer system. In this manner the requester doesn't need to keep the requesting computer system power on till the upcoming download actvities.

摘要: A buffering protocol and a streaming media player which utilizes the buffering protocol designed for minimizing the occurrences of pauses during the presentation due to network congestion and for scheduling pauses at appropriate times in the presentation. The data comprises coded content information comprising a time synchronous media, together with various other sources, synchronized to appear at predetermined time points in the media presentation. The presentation is delivered in streaming fashion, so that the end user does not have to wait for the entirety of the data to be downloaded before starting the presentation. The invention does not require that media data and events data be multiplexed into a single streaming file and it does not require that the file provided to the media player be customized for prefetching of content.

摘要: The present invention provides a browser which utilizes a Web access controller to limit access to pre-selected web sites. Such a browser is suitable for use in education, for example, where the intent is to keep students focused on a particular subject by restricting their access to predetermined relevant sites. The browser also has a “depth” parameter, whereby users are enabled to browse from those web sites on the select list to unlisted sites which are within the depth parameter away from the listed sites. This provides the users with the surfing capabilities inherent in the web. The Web access controller provides for a safer environment for children to browse through the Internet and a worry-free tool for parents.

摘要: A method and data communication system for transferring multimedia data which stores on an application server a multimedia file including a plurality groups of multimedia data. Each group has a predetermined data size. Next, the system receives a client request and reads a client address at the application server. The client address corresponds to at least one client apparatus. Next, the system strips consecutive groups from the multimedia file and buffers the stripped groups in a staging buffer. Then, the system transfers to a streaming server, consecutive groups from the staging buffer and the client address. The system then converts at the streaming server, each of the consecutive groups received from the staging buffer into a format readable by the at least one client apparatus. Finally, the streaming server sends each of the converted groups to the at least one client apparatus.

摘要: A method is described for efficiently delivering a presentation of web content comprised of a media, such as audio or video content, having defined time increments, together with one or more other content sources, such as images or events to be displayed on a monitor, synchronized so that the one ore more other images or events are displayed at predetermined time increments in the media presentation. Furthermore, the entire presentation is delivered in streaming fashion, so that the end user does not have to wait for the entirety of the content data to be downloaded before starting the presentation, but rather can start viewing and listening to the presentation after a relatively short delay period. The media data and the other content need not reside at a single server source. An authoring tool for creating such composite time-synchronous content automatically determines the necessary information for scheduling player requests to the servers. This information, together with the actual presentation content, is sent to a special player which can interpret the information and act according to its instructions.

摘要: A recorder system provides simultaneous data information and track following servo information from a buried servo layer disposed under a data recording layer in a magnetic medium, using the same transducer for simultaneously reading the servo and data information while writing data. The signals representing data are shaped to provide a wide gap around zero frequency (DC) for inclusion of servo information in the gap, and as a result, segregated data and servo information is read by the recorder through use of filtering techniques.

摘要: A graphical user interface displays a coarse control scrollbar to provide a user with coarse resolution sequential data control and a magnified view scrollbar proximate to the coarse control scrollbar. The magnified view scrollbar provides the user with fine resolution sequential data control. When the cursor is on the scrollbar, an overlay is opened which is a zoomed version of the scrollbar. The zoom range of the overlay is adjustable and can either be preset by the user or set during the zooming operation. When operating the overlay, a menu is available which allows the user to choose between zooming up or down to select the desired position.
