Abstract: Systems and methods are described for assigning operating bands to wireless devices of a wireless network. Registration notifications for a plurality of wireless devices are received at an access node. Each of the plurality of wireless devices are classified as either an indoor wireless device or an outdoor wireless device. The access node instructs wireless devices classified as indoor wireless devices to operate on a first operating band. The access node instructs wireless devices classified as outdoor wireless devices to operate on a second operating band.

Abstract: Systems and methods are described for extending coverage of a wireless device. A handover trigger threshold may be established for a plurality of wireless devices located in a coverage area of an access node. An attachment request may be received at the access node from at least one wireless device having a power class different from a common power class of the plurality of wireless devices. Based on the reported power class, the access node may adjust a handover trigger threshold for the at least one wireless device. The access node may instruct the at least one wireless device to extend its coverage until the adjusted handover trigger threshold is met.

Abstract: Systems and methods are described for scheduling transmissions from an access node in a communication network. A plurality of data packets may be received at a buffer of an access node. A discard timer may be started on receipt of the data packets. When the discard packet timer expires, a number of data packets in the buffer and an associated aggregated queuing delay may be determined. The aggregated queuing delay may be compared to target block error rate (BLER). The target BLER may be modified when the aggregated queuing delay and the number of data packets exceed a target threshold. Data packets may be transmitted from the access node using the modified BLER.

Abstract: Network nodes including relays and access nodes are configured to transport data packets by identifying the type of data packet and correspondingly compressing a header portion of the data packet. Operations described herein may be implemented in a network that is capable of transporting voice over LTE (VoLTE) data packets using the GPRS tunneling protocol (GTP). A unique value is marked to an IP header of the voice data packet, and the GTP headers may be mapped to a unique bearer that is different from a standard voice bearer used in the network. The compression uses a robust header compression (RoHC), which includes compressing a RTP header portion along with a GTP header portion using existing or new compression profiles.

Abstract: Systems and methods are described for assigning a mobility parameter to a wireless device. One or more measurement reports may be collected at an access node from the wireless device. A pathloss change for the wireless device may be calculated based on the collected measurement reports. When the calculated pathloss change exceeds a threshold, the wireless device may be instructed to report surplus transmit power at the access node. The reported surplus transmit power may be correlated to preset location environments and a position of the wireless device classified based on the correlation. A mobility parameter may be assigned for the wireless device.

Abstract: Mitigating interference between access nodes in a wireless network includes determining interference caused to uplink signals received at a first access node by downlink signals transmitted from a second access node, and adjusting a guard period of a special subframe utilized by one or both of access nodes based on determining the interference, by switching special subframe formats to include a longer guard period. Overall interference is mitigated based on mutually-experienced propagation delay, and channel reciprocity. Adjustments are associated with known distances between access nodes.
