A message generator at the network generates a message that includes an indication of the network-entity capabilities with respect to packet communications. A field of the message identifies the packet-service capabilities. A message is sent by the network and detected by a detector of the mobile station. A report is formed indicative of the value contained in the delivered message, and a user display displays an indication of the detected information.

摘要： Methods and apparatus for use in increasing data throughput to mobile stations in a wireless communication network, where data is communicated between mobile stations and the wireless network in a plurality of data bursts within time slots assigned to the mobile station. One illustrative method includes the acts of receiving, through a wireless transceiver, data in a time slot W; tuning the wireless transceiver, during a first portion of a time slot X which follows the time slot W, for transmission; reading transmit data from a transmit data queue and encoding the transmit data in a data burst in accordance with a data burst format; and causing the encoded transmit data to be transmitted in the data burst during a second portion of the time slot X. The data burst may be formatted in accordance with a predefined data burst format of the wireless network and merely shifted in time, or the data burst may be formatted in accordance with a reduced-size data burst format. When such alternate data burst technique is utilized, extra available time remains to tune the wireless transceiver from receive to transmit mode, or transmit to receive mode. Thus, an additional downlink time slot(s) per data frame may be allocated to the mobile station for increased data throughput, where at least one uplink time slot per data frame is utilized for data transmission.

摘要： Methods are described for use in a mobile device such that when the mobile device is connected to a generic access network (GAN) cell, the mobile device receives information including characteristics pertaining to one or more neighbour cells in a network that are not GAN cells. The mobile device can then determine at least a list of candidate neighbour cells for handover from the GAN cell to a cell that is not a GAN cell as a function of the information. In some embodiments of the invention the network that is not a GAN is a UTRAN network and a candidate list of 3G cells are generated.

When the mobile-terminated call is a non-emergency call, data indications in one or more data fields of the incoming call message are set to instruct the mobile communication device to perform non-emergency call processing. When the mobile-terminated call is an emergency call from a public safety answering point entity, the data indications in the one or more data fields of the incoming call message are set to instruct the mobile communication device to automatically answer the emergency call. The incoming call message is sent to the mobile communication the wireless communication network.
