摘要: Described are techniques for determining preferred paths. A host requests first information from each of one or more ports of a data storage system. The first information includes preferred path information for a first device visible to the host through each port. The preferred path information includes one or more parameters used by said host to perform one or more mathematical calculations to determine a preferred path for transmitting to the data storage system a data operation directed to the first device. The first information is sent from each port to the host.

摘要: In one aspect, a method includes providing a continuous data protection system comprising a data protection appliance, a splitter and source volumes on a source side that are replicated to target volumes of a storage array on a target side by using a journal of write transactions; and enabling, in an image access mode, a rolling back of the target volumes on the target side from a first point in time to a selected point in time so that the target volumes contain data for the selected point in time. The selected point in time is earlier than the first point in time and the rolling back includes undoing write transactions in the journal subsequent to the selected point in time; enabling generation of a virtual snapshot of the target volumes for the selected point in time after rolling back the target volumes to the selected point in time; and enabling a user to access the virtual snapshot in the storage array at the selected point in time.

摘要: Example embodiments of the present invention provide asynchronous splitting of IOs from a storage array, such as a Symmetrix by EMC Corporation of Hopkinton, Mass. to a replication appliance, such as RecoverPoint by EMC Corporation of Hopkinton, Mass. The storage array may receive a plurality of IOs from a host and may store a record (e.g., in an ordered table) associated with the IOs. At a later time, the storage array may provide the IOs according to the record associated with the IOs. For example, the storage array may receive a plurality of Small Computer System Interface (SCSI) Command Descriptor Blocks (CDBs) from one or more hosts and receive data associated with the CDBs. The storage array then may write the data to respective locations in storage and create entries in the ordered table according to the order in which the CDBs were received.

摘要: Methods and apparatus for eliminating the need for a complete synchronization due to failure of a data protection appliance in a continuous data protection system having a replication splitter. In one embodiment, a continuous data protection system includes a source side having a source side storage array with a splitter and a data protection appliance, where processing includes initiating a source side splitter session, initializing a first I/O tracking mechanism for the splitter session, and activating the splitter to a source side processing active state to continuously push I/O data from the source side to the target side.

摘要: A method and system comprising splitting an IO in a system; intercepting the IO in an appliance; determining whether the IO is directed to a replicated file system; sending the IO directed to the replicated file system to a replication device; and acknowledging the receipt of the IO. A method, system and computer program product comprising requesting access to a point in time in a replicated file system; determining from a plurality of bookmarks of file system configurations; a bookmark corresponding to the point in time; determining if the current configuration of the file system is equivalent to the bookmark; and reconfiguring the file system when the current configuration is not equivalent to the configuration of the bookmark.
