When the code rate is the second code rate, the signal transmission apparatus generates a second parity check matrix supporting a second code rate lower than the first code rate by adding columns of a degree of 1 and columns of a degree of 2 to the first parity check matrix and generates the second parity check matrix as the parity check matrix for the LDPC code.
