Abstract: The present invention relates to methods and compositions for detecting analytes, including proteins, polysaccharides, viruses, nucleic acids and cells. The methods and compositions utilize a reporter probe, suitably a multivalent reporter probe, to detect the presence of the analytes. In embodiments, the methods and compositions can be used for non-enzymatic detection of nucleic acids.
