Abstract: Fuel gas suitable for use in conjunction with a gas turbine is prepared by subjecting a hydrocarbon oil to partial combustion using air as the oxidizing medium and injecting additional hydrocarbon oil into the hot partial combustion products.

Abstract: Gaseous mixtures comprising hydrogen and carbon monoxide are produced continuously by the noncatalytic partial oxidation of a dispersion of liquid hydrocarbonaceous fuel in a methane-rich gas carrier, e.g., natural gas, with a free-oxygen containing gas in the reaction zone of a free-flow unpacked gas generator. The effluent gas from the gas generator is produced having a comparatively high reducing ratio. That is, the mole ratio H2+CO/H2O+CO2 of the product gas is at least about 10. For a given-soot level, this reducing ratio is greater than the reducing ratio of product gas from a natural gas fired gas generator or the product gas from a liquid hydrocarbon fired gas generator. Further, in comparison with a steam carrier the SCFH of H2+CO produced per pound of oil feed may be increased about 60%. The product gas may be used as a reducing gas, fuel gas, or as synthesis gas.

IN THE PROCESS A LOW NAPHTHA HIGH SULFUR CONTAINING PETROLEUM CRUDE OR CRUDE FRACTION IS THERMALLY AND CATALYTICALLY HYDROCRACKED AD HYDROTREATED IN THE PRESENCE OF A STREAM OF SUPPLEMENTAL NAPHTHA FROM AN EXTERNAL SOURCE. H2S, CH4 AND CO2 PRODUCED IN THE PROCESS DISSOLVE IN LIQUID NAPHTHA AND ARE LATER SEPARATED IN A FRACTIONATOR WHERE NAPHTHA IS RECOVERED AND RECYCLED.
