    Abstract: The present invention relates to speech synthesis system wherein the acoustic message items are optically stored. The system according to the invention comprises: an optical store including a plurality of diffractive elements pertaining to the holographic technique. Each element is constructed for selectively projecting images carrying acoustic information in optical form; each projected image being coverted into electrical speech signals through an image converter tube associated with a loudspeaker. The image selection and its analysis are controlled by adresses supplied from a computer.

    Abstract: In order to narrow the bandwidth of a communication channel through which electrical signals are to be transmitted the latter are passed through an electro-optical device comprising doublediffraction optical system employing monochromatic light. The double-diffraction system is equipped with an electro-optical modulator to which the electrical signals are applied and a photoelectric transducer collects the spatially modulated monochromatic light after filtering therefrom of certain spectrum components, the remaining spectrum components having been juxtaposed.

    Abstract: An optical information storing system comprises a thin photoconductive film and a thin film of a mixture of nematic liquid crystal and dichroic dye, placed side by side between two transparent electrodes. A direct voltage V is applied between said electrodes. The data to be stored are projected optically onto the photoconductive film with a radiation to which the photoconductor is sensitive. The mixture film is illuminated by an auxiliary radiation which is rectilinearly polarized and has a wavelength corresponding to an optical absorption line of the dichroic dye, the photoconductor being sensitive to this radiation.

    Abstract: The invention relates to optical arrangements for storing binary information. The arrangements according to the present invention is a bistable optical storage system comprising at least two phototropic plates optically coupled with one another and arranged between two light sources, said sources being nonactinic in behavior vis-a-vis the nearest screen in each case, and being capable of causing the bleaching of the particular other screen, as the case may be. The plates may have either a variable transparency or a variable reflectivity. Writing in means are provided for bleaching at least one portion of said plates and erase means may be added for redarkening any portion the bleached area of said plates.
