    Abstract: A light beam direction control element includes: a first transparent substrate; a second transparent substrate facing the first transparent substrate; a first conductive film pattern having openings and being formed on a surface of the first transparent substrate opposing the second transparent substrate; a second conductive film pattern having openings and being formed on a surface of the second transparent substrate opposing the first transparent substrate; an electrophoretic element being sandwiched between the first and second conductive film patterns, and including light-shielding electrophoretic particles having a surface charge and a transparent dispersion medium; and light-transmissive regions being disposed between the first and second transparent substrates, being sandwiched between at least a portion of the openings of the first and second conductive film patterns, having a surface parallel to the first and second conductive film patterns, and having side walls surrounded by the electrophoretic element.

    Abstract: An optical detection type chemical sensor includes a light source, a detection element and a photodetector. The detection element is constituted of a laminate in which a multilayer film including a chemical detection layer, an optical interference layer, and a half mirror layer is formed on a transparent substrate. At least one of the layers includes a magnetic material. Light from the light source is applied to the detection element under the condition that the light enters inside of the detection element from the rear surface of the transparent substrate on which the laminate is not formed and multiple reflection occurring in the laminate intensifies the magneto-optical effect. A subject is detected by using the photodetector to detect a magneto-optical signal indicating a change in reflected light from the laminate resulting from a change in an optical property resulting from a reaction in the chemical detection layer.

    Abstract: A light distribution control device includes: first upper electrodes and second upper electrodes disposed alternately in a first direction; first lower electrodes and second lower electrodes disposed alternately in a second direction that crosses the first direction; light transmissive regions disposed between an upper electrode set consisting of the first upper electrodes and the second upper electrodes and a lower electrode set consisting of the first lower electrodes and second lower electrodes; and colored electrophoretic particles and a dispersion medium contained in a space between light transmissive regions. Each of the first upper electrodes extends along the space between light transmissive regions. Each of the second upper electrodes extends along a line of light transmissive regions.     Abstract: A light ray direction control element includes a first light transmitting substrate, a second light transmitting substrate facing the first light transmitting substrate, a first light transmitting region provided on a first main surface of the first light transmitting substrate, a second light transmitting region provided on a first main surface of the second light transmitting substrate, first light absorbing regions positioned among the first light transmitting region, and second light absorbing regions positioned among the second light transmitting region. The light ray direction control element further includes a light transmitting dispersion medium enclosed in the first light absorbing regions and the second light absorbing regions, and charged electrophoretic particles dispersed in the light transmitting dispersion medium. When viewing a cross-section perpendicular to the first main surface of the first light transmitting substrate, the shape or the angle of inclination, with respect to the first main surface of the first light transmitting substrate, of the first light transmitting region and the second light transmitting region differs.

    Abstract: A display apparatus includes a display device configured to display an original image at an original image display position, a second array of a lens array or a pinhole array, and a first array of a lens array or a pinhole array disposed distant from the display device and the second array between the display device and the second array. The first array is configured to form a plurality of elemental images generated from the original image at positions between the first array and the second array. The pitch of the plurality of elemental images is different from lens pitch or pinhole pitch of the second array. The second array is configured to integrate the plurality of elemental images to generate a single reproduced image of the original image.

    Abstract: A microdevice includes: a microchannel to which a measurement target solution containing a measurement target substance is introduced; an antibody being fixed to at least one sidewall surface of the microchannel and specifically binding to the measurement target substance; a fluorescence-labeled derivative being specifically bound to the antibody and being acquired by fluorescence-labeling the measurement target substance; and a light blocker blocking excitation light exciting fluorescent light radiated by the fluorescence-labeled derivative. The measurement target substance and the fluorescence-labeled derivative specifically bind to the antibody in a competitive manner, and the antibody is fixed to the sidewall surface of the microchannel in a state of specifically binding to the fluorescence-labeled derivative. The light blocker blocks the excitation light entering the fluorescence-labeled derivative specifically binding to the antibody.

    Abstract: A display device includes: a display module including elemental pixel groups, each of the elemental pixel groups being configured to display an elemental image for displaying a reproduced image; an elemental lens array including elemental lenses, the elemental lenses being provided in front of the elemental pixel groups in one-to-one correspondence; a diopter adjustment element array including diopter adjustment elements, the diopter adjustment elements being provided in front of the plurality of elemental lenses in one-to-one correspondence; and a controller. The controller is configured to: control a part of the diopter adjustment elements in accordance with visual acuity of one eye of a user; and control the other part of the diopter adjustment elements in accordance with visual acuity of the other eye of the user.
