    Abstract: A light distribution control device includes: first upper electrodes and second upper electrodes disposed alternately in a first direction; first lower electrodes and second lower electrodes disposed alternately in a second direction that crosses the first direction; light transmissive regions disposed between an upper electrode set consisting of the first upper electrodes and the second upper electrodes and a lower electrode set consisting of the first lower electrodes and second lower electrodes; and colored electrophoretic particles and a dispersion medium contained in a space between light transmissive regions. Each of the first upper electrodes extends along the space between light transmissive regions. Each of the second upper electrodes extends along a line of light transmissive regions. Each of the first lower electrodes extends along the space between light transmissive regions. Each of the second lower electrodes extends along a line of light transmissive regions.

    Abstract: A light beam direction control element includes: a first transparent substrate; a second transparent substrate facing the first transparent substrate; a first conductive film pattern having openings and being formed on a surface of the first transparent substrate opposing the second transparent substrate; a second conductive film pattern having openings and being formed on a surface of the second transparent substrate opposing the first transparent substrate; an electrophoretic element being sandwiched between the first and second conductive film patterns, and including light-shielding electrophoretic particles having a surface charge and a transparent dispersion medium; and light-transmissive regions being disposed between the first and second transparent substrates, being sandwiched between at least a portion of the openings of the first and second conductive film patterns, having a surface parallel to the first and second conductive film patterns, and having side walls surrounded by the electrophoretic element.

    Abstract: A light beam direction control device is provided with a transparent substrates in which main surfaces of the transparent substrate are opposed to each other, transparent conductive films respectively disposed on the main surface side of the transparent substrate, electrodes electrically connected to the transparent conductive films, a control circuit for controlling a potential difference between the transparent conductive films and a plurality of light beam transmitting regions arranged on the transparent substrates, light beam absorbing regions disposed between the adjacent light beam transmitting regions, and the transparent conductive films. When shifting the range of outgoing direction of light beam to a narrow state, the control circuit applies the electrodes electrically open and holds the open state.

    Abstract: A control circuit is configured to: change a dispersion state of the electrophoretic particles by controlling voltage across the first transparent electrode and the second transparent electrode to change a range of exit direction of light transmitted through the light transmissive regions and the dispersion medium; apply direct voltage at a first voltage value across the first transparent electrode and the second transparent electrode to change the range of exit direction from a narrow range to a wide range; measure luminance of light transmitted through the light beam direction control panel during application of the voltage at the first voltage value; and increase the voltage value to be applied across the first transparent electrode and the second transparent electrode in a case where the measured luminance of the transmitted light is lower than a target value.
