    摘要: A compatible optical pickup including an active compensation device to actively switch an angle of incidence of the light on the objective lens when either a third information storage medium that has a different format than that of the first and second information storage media, or the second information storage medium is adopted for use in a data recording/reproducing operation. The active compensation device includes a plurality of transparent substrates, and at least one material layer, interposed between the plurality of substrates, having a refractive index which is actively switched according to an applied voltage. A holographic pattern, formed adjacent to the material layer on a surface of at least one of the transparent substrates, changes a divergence angle of the light by diffracting or transmitting without diffraction the incident light according to change of the refractive index of the material layer. The voltage applied to the material layer is adjusted according to the applied information storage medium that is adopted for the use in the data recording/reproducing operation.

The active compensation device includes two transparent substrates; a material layer interposed between the transparent substrates and having a refractive index that is actively switched according to a voltage applied to the material layer; and a holographic pattern formed adjacent to the material layer on a surface of at least one of the transparent substrates to control a divergence angle of incident light by transmitting the incident light without diffraction or diffracting the incident light according to the refractive index of the material layer.

The photodetector is installed on the substrate and receives the light. The objective lens is installed on a first side of the substrate and focuses the light emitted from the laser diode onto a recording surface of a disc. The prism is installed on a second side of the substrate, transmits the light emitted from the laser diode toward the objective lens, and transmits the light reflected from the recording surface toward the photodetector. The optical element adjusts an optical path formed between the substrate and the prism.

An optical head section includes the slider, where an air bearing floats the slider generated between the optical head section and the optical disk. Wire suspensions movably support the optical head section with respect to the base. A driving unit drives the optical head section in a tracking direction and a focusing direction. A latching unit selectively securely positions the optical head section at a predetermined distance away from the optical disk preventing the optical head section from colliding with the optical disk.

    摘要: An apparatus to drive a blade on which an objective lens is mounted including a first electromagnetic unit to generate a first electromagnetic force and a second electromagnetic unit to generate a second electromagnetic force such that when the first and second magnitudes are the same, the blade is driven in a focus direction, and when the magnitudes are different, the blade is driven in a tilt direction. Accordingly, a tilt error can be actively controlled so that a laser beam is incident on a disk in a precise direction therefore improving the qualities of recording and reproducing data. In addition, tilt control is performed by using a focus adjustment mechanism so that an additional mechanism to control tilt is not required. As a result, the size and weight of the apparatus to drive the objective lens of the optical pickup are reduced.
