摘要： In an image processing system an input image signal is processed to output a processed image signal. A first parameter relating to a first kind of characteristic, and a second parameter relating to a second kind of characteristic, are each extracted from the input image signal. A controlling parameter which is a multi-value datum is inferred by using membership functions relating to the first and second parameters, and also inferred is a membership function relating to the controlling parameter and a plurality of rules representing relations between the first and second parameters and the controlling parameter for determining a processing condition for processing the input image signal.

摘要： There is provided an image processing apparatus comprising: an input device to input an image signal; a processor for processing the input image signal and outputting an image reproduction signal; a detecting circuit to detect characteristics of the input image signal; and a control circuit to control conditions of processing of the image signal by the processor by means of a fuzzy inference based on characteristics of the image signal which were detected by the detecting circuit. Such characteristics of the image signal include the kind of image such as character, screen, and photograph. The optimum spatial filtering process can be executed for areas of each of the character, screen, and photograph types. A mixing ratio of the edge emphasis and the smoothing can be continuously changed for characteristic amounts of an original. Membership functions of a plurality of parameters are synthesized and a consequence is derived by the fuzzy inference algorithm. Thus, erroneous judgment for a vague image area is prevented and discontinuity which occurs at a change point of the image processes can be also eliminated.

The apparatus is capable of generating high-gradation color signals from either of color negative and positive films. This invention further provides an image forming apparatus capable of producing a high-gradation image from either of a film-type original document or a reflection-type original document.

摘要： A color film reading apparatus capable of generating high-gradation color signals from either a color negative or positive film includes a holding device for holding a color negative film, illuminating apparatus for projecting illumination light onto the color negative film, a reading unit for reading image data from the light projected through the color negative film, and shading circuitry for performing shading correction. Control circuitry controls the reading unit to cause the reading unit to raed data from an unexposed portion of the negative to obtain shading correction data. In the case of a positive film, the controlling circuitry sets the shading correction data on the basis of data obtained from the illumination light. Further, a high-gradation color image may be obtained from either a film original or a reflection from an original document.
