    摘要: A method of calculating at least one soft bit corresponding to a data symbol received by a radio receiver is described. In one form the method (300) includes, calculating an average amplitude at least one received data symbol. The method also includes calculating (304) at least one threshold amplitude in respect of the data symbol on the basis of the calculated average amplitude. Next a subset of constellation symbols is determined (310) at least partly on the basis of the at least one threshold, and for which a distance determination will be made. The distance between the position of the data symbol and each of the symbols in the subset of constellation symbols is determined (312) and then a soft bit corresponding to the received symbol is calculated (314) on the basis of said determined distances.

    摘要: A method for QR-maximum likelihood detection (QR-MLD) demodulation is provided. The method includes determining a transmission reception mode, receiving symbols represented by a received symbol vector, generating a channel matrix, and performing QR decomposition on the channel matrix to compute a unitary matrix and an upper triangular matrix. The method further includes the steps of processing the received symbol vector by multiplying the received symbol vector by the Hermitian of the unitary matrix, determining whether a conjugate calculation will be required to set a conjugate flag, computing a first distance metric by performing a conjugate or non-conjugate first distance metric calculation depending on the conjugate flag, and computing an estimated symbol by performing a conjugate or non-conjugate estimated symbol calculation depending on the conjugate flag. The method provided is less complex than existing demodulation methods, and it may be used to at least demodulate data transmitted via different modes.

The invention is particularly but not exclusively related to ultra wideband (UWB) technologies. The present invention provides a method of dynamically selecting carrier frequencies for carrying a broadband channel, the method comprising: allocate a group of carrier frequencies for carrying the broadband channel; identify a number of alterative groups of carrier frequencies; monitor channel performance of the broadband channel for the allocated group of carrier frequencies; re-allocate the broadband channel to be carried by one of the alternative groups of carrier frequencies in response to the monitored channel performance degrading below a threshold.
