Abstract: A method for operating a gas turbine engine including a compressor is provided. The method includes defining a predetermined concentration, placing at least one sensor in an inlet of the gas turbine engine, detecting a sand and dust concentration value using the at least one sensor; and deploying a boot to facilitate preventing particles from entering the compressor when the sand and dust concentration value equals or exceeds the predetermined concentration. The boot includes a plurality of fluid exit slots such that clean air is facilitated to be adhered to a flow path surface downstream from the boot.

Abstract: A liquid sampling catheter contains a lumen filled by a sampling cannula with a hollow lumen and either a closed or open distal tip. Attached to the proximal end of the device is a modular blood storage component. The sampling stick slides through the patient's skin or through a seal and in-dwelling lumen on a corresponding sampling hub to sample blood from a patient. This embodiment establishes a simple, standardized, and quick procedure for sampling small amounts of bodily liquids such as blood for a variety of analyte tests.

The hub may have some of: a hub body; a lumen passing between openings at the front end and the rear end, the lumen allowing for passage of an elongate element through the entire lumen; the bottom of the hub body may be flat; the top of hub body preferably is sloped downwardly; the lumen is preferably sloped downwardly to enable guidance of the elongate body towards the target area; and an area surrounding the opening of the lumen at the rear end configured to receive a support for the elongate element, the support for the elongate element having a diameter in the support larger than a diameter of the elongate element.

Abstract: A gas turbine engine is provided with an improved fuel system that features a fuel manifold with a primary and secondary fuel flowpath circumventing a combustor section of the engine. The manifold is formed with a double-walled construction for the purpose of withstanding high temperatures or fires around the combustor section and, additionally, to provide a secondary flowpath for draining any fuel leakage from the manifold. The two walls of the manifold include an inner wall that encloses the primary fuel flowpath through the fuel system. A concentric outer wall encloses the inner wall and protects the primary fuel flowpath. The double-walled system is made possible with a unique manifold assembly utilizing double-walled manifold segments that interconnect fuel flowpaths through fuel injector base sections. When assembled, these parts connect together to form an integral double-walled fuel manifold assembly.
