A programmable connector module is equipped with a molded plastic base on which an IC chip is mounted. The plastic base is wired with programmable inputs which can be used to provide a logic 1 or a logic 0 to each input of the IC chip. Tabs or punch holes located on the plastic base can be broken to disconnect an input circuit from ground to allow a logic 1 to be programmed. Two inputs are used to program the configuration of the module and four inputs are used to program the address of the module. The programmable module can be positioned anywhere along a multiplex wire bus and is equipped with connectors for transmitting and receiving data to and from electrical loads along the bus.

A video amplifier for use in a document scanning system to provide signals representative of the information content of a scanned document. The amplifier includes an automatic background control portion and an automatic black level adjustment portion to maintain the integrity of the output voltage range independent of the background of the scanned document and throughout the period of time required to scan the entire document. In addition, circuitry is provided for varying the time constant of the automatic background control circuitry to make that circuitry respond quickly to changes of the background toward the "white" direction. Further, the normally white platen back is provided with a gray leading edge to prevent the automatic background control circuitry from being upset by initial runs of white in the event of an imperfectly registered non-white document.

An automatic development control system having a sensor providing a signal representative of developed toner mass on a patch sample on the photoreceptor. The signal is conveyed to a comparator through signal processing circuits for comparing with a reference signal. The signal processing circuits include digital to analog circuitry also capable of providing analog to digital conversion. The reference signal represents an undeveloped photoreceptor signal normalized to accommodate changing photoreceptor, sensor and operating environment characteristics. A dispenser solenoid activates a toner dispenser through an interrupt mechanism in given increments of time depending upon the error signals generated by the comparator.

A system for determining the cumulative position and periodic average velocity of a rotating body having an incremental encoder, operatively connected to the body, for generating a series of periodic signals indicative of rotation of the body. The system also includes a high frequency clock for generating clock pulses at a frequency greater than the maximum frequency of the encoder signal, and a timer for controlling the total time of a predetermined sample interval. Also included in the device is a counter for accumulating the number of integral encoder signal cycles that have been completed, an arithmetic logic unit for determining the size of a fractional portion of an encoder signal cycle that was completed between the last integral encoder cycle and the end of the sample interval. Subsequently, the number of integral encoder signal cycles is added to the fractional portion of an encoder cycle to determine the total number of encoder signal cycles completed, whereby the total is then multiplied by an encoder position conversion factor to determine the cumulative position of the rotating body or belt driven therefrom.
