摘要： An orthopaedic support (50) or product is formed of a doubleknit type fabric material with spaced interwoven layers formed of high strength materials, and an open-work matrix of filaments or threads interconnecting the layers. The fabric may be impregnated with water hardened urethane. Hydroxy propyl methyl-cellulose (HPMC) will also be applied to the doubleknit type material or other casting fabric in sufficient amount to reduce the stickiness of the water hardened urethane. The HPMC may be mixed in with the water surfaces of the doubleknit type material. The orthopaedic support (50) or product is packaged in a water-vapor impermeable package; and is opened. Water is supplied to the fabric when it is applied to the part of the anatomy requiring support. The fabric may be included in a soft goods' support including a water distribution network, and straps (74) to hold the support in place.

The support material or product is packaged in a water-vapor impermeable package; and is opened and water is supplied to the fabric when it is applied to the part of the anatomy requiring support. The fabric may be included in a soft goods support including a water distribution network and straps to hold the support in place. The double-knit type material may be variable in thickness and may be three dimensional in its configuration. An orthopaedic support or splint may have an inner core material of the double-knit type fabric, an impermeable stretch bonded laminate layer on one side, and a microporous plastic layer on the other side to facilitate water activation of the core material.

The dispenser box includes at least one moisture impermeable container connected with a face plate containing a periphery gasket. The bandage exits through a slot in the face plate. A door is pivotally connected to and mechanically biased against the face plate. When the door is closed, a moisture resistant environment is maintained for the stored bandage materials.

The outer casting fabric may include openings extending through it, so that the entire cast assembly has ventilation openings allowing air circulation to accomplish rapid drying following wetting of the assembly by sweat, rain, or by swimming, for example.

摘要： A technique for forming orthopaedic splints or supports includes the steps of impregnating the edges of casting material with non-rigid bonding material and subsequently impregnating the casting material with water hardenable material such as urethane. The edge treatment keeps the edges in a relatively cushioning or non-rigid state to avoid irritation of the skin of the patient. The blanks may be formed using a mold having a groove defining the outline of the casting blank, and a ridge for implementing the impregnation of a bead of bonding material into the casting fabric. The casting blank material may be formed of spacer or double knit type material, or may be formed of several layers of fabric including high strength filaments, and may have padding material as one layer.

摘要： A cast or support for use in limiting movement of the anatomy to promote healing of an injured body part includes initially flexible and subsequently rigid double-knit material, or other casting blanks. There is a water-hardenable material impregnated into the casting blank. Certain areas of the blank have significantly reduced or no hardenable material. This construction may provide at least one hinge line which extends substantially across the double-knit material or other casting blank where the upper and lower layers are held in engagement with each other. The cast or support may be folded open along the hinge line to permit washing, inspection, or treatment of the portion of the anatomy to which the cast or support is applied or as one step in the preparation of a mold of a portion of the anatomy. More than one hinge line may be provided. Overlapping edges of the blank may also be of reduced thickness and with reduced hardening material to provide a smooth overlap to secure the cast or support in place.

摘要： An orthopedic brace designed to immobilize the knee by preventing flexion/extension and limiting medial/lateral movement. The brace includes a main support structure embodied in a unitary, rigid stay member with slidable, semi-rigid cuffs at one or both ends to provide length adjustability. The stay member has no popliteal articulation in order to immobilize the knee joint, and further provides attachment for a Velcro strapping system for easy application to the posterior of the leg. A breathable foam softgood insulates the leg and knee from the main support structure and strapping system yet is completely detachable from the brace so it can be trimmed to any desired length or width, and washed as necessary.

摘要： A versatile orthopedic walker includes a high strength engineered plastic base with spaced upper and lower surfaces and upwardly extending slotted strut supports. The base may be laterally and vertically cored, and an outer sole is provided which extends upward over the core openings, with the upper edges of the outsole being ridged to fit into a peripheral groove in the base to provide a smooth exterior surface. Struts of different lengths are provided, and all of the struts have identical arrangements for interlocking with the base. All of the struts may be provided with a three pronged construction to triply lock the struts into the base. The struts may have areas of reduced cross-section providing pivot points or areas of flexibility to accommodate different size patients, and limiting stops may be provided to assure adequate orthopedic support. Fully integrally molded pivoting D-rings may hold walker straps in place.
