摘要: Electrode materials for electrochemical cells and batteries and methods of producing such materials are disclosed herein. The electrode materials comprise an active lithium metal oxide material prepared by: (a) contacting the lithium metal oxide material with an aqueous acidic solution containing one or more metal cations; and (b) heating the so-contacted lithium metal oxide from step (a) to dryness at a temperature below 200° C. The metal cations in the aqueous acidic solution comprise one or more metal cations selected from the group consisting of an alkaline earth metal ion, a transition metal ion, and a main group metal ion.

摘要: This invention relates to methods of preparing positive electrode materials for electrochemical cells and batteries. It relates, in particular, to a method for fabricating lithium-metal-oxide electrode materials for lithium cells and batteries. The method comprises contacting a hydrogen-lithium-manganese-oxide material with one or more metal ions, preferably in an acidic solution, to insert the one or more metal ions into the hydrogen-lithium-manganese-oxide material; heat-treating the resulting product to form a powdered metal oxide composition; and forming an electrode from the powdered metal oxide composition.

摘要: A non-aqueous solvent composition for a lithium battery comprises a fluorinated solvent mixture that consists essentially of a 1,2-difluoroethylene carbonate and a fluoro-substituted dialkyl carbonate in a respective weight ratio of about 1:3 to about 1:1, and optionally up to about 30 wt % of an additional organic solvent. An electrolyte for a lithium ion battery comprises a lithium salt dissolved in a non-aqueous solvent composition comprising the fluorinated solvent mixture.

摘要: The surface of a lithium ion cathode material (e.g., a lithium metal oxide material capable of releasing and accepting lithium ions during charging and discharging, respectively, of a lithium ion electrochemical cell) is coated with a lithium metal oxide (LMO) material comprising a high-valent metal to, inter alia, reduce interfacial resistance toward lithium exchange. Li-rich phases on the surface of the treated LMO particles allow for better lithium ion diffusion. The inclusion of elements that form phases with lithium and can substitute in the host structure allow for mixing across interfaces leading to more robust structures that better mimic epitaxial-type layers. Inclusion of doping elements in place of some of the high-valent metal in the surface-treating composition provides unexpectedly improved performance over surface treatments comprising lithium metal oxides that only include a high-valent metal.

摘要: This invention relates to positive electrode materials for electrochemical cells and batteries. It relates, in particular, to electrode precursor materials comprising manganese ions and to methods for fabricating lithium-metal-oxide electrode materials and structures using the precursor materials, notably for lithium cells and batteries. More specifically, the invention relates to lithium-metal-oxide electrode materials with layered-type structures, spinel-type structures, combinations thereof and modifications thereof, notably those with imperfections, such as stacking faults and dislocations. The invention extends to include lithium-metal-oxide electrode materials with modified surfaces to protect the electrode materials from highly oxidizing potentials in the cells and from other undesirable effects, such as electrolyte oxidation, oxygen loss and/or dissolution.
